FoMoCo is such the political animal that they just can't give the State and Federal regimes a black eye during the 2024 election cycle. Mass layoffs will have to happen this year, and the end of Q3 is certainly a likely time. Unless, of course, the hopes of a "soft landing" for the economy are dashed by the reality that they printed a whole butt-load of new money over the last couple of years in the name of "stimulus", and the dilution of the spending power of the existing money crashes the economy with stagflation.

People ask, why would you go back to Ford?

For me, it's simple. I only had a couple of years left until I could retire properly. So, yes, if there was a way to resume my job there, I would.

If I were a younger person, I'd definitely stay far, far away from Ford.

The constant threats of layoffs has caused all of our remaining skilled members of our IT team to voluntarily leave for better jobs this month. Good on them!

Our leadership (can we really call them leaders?) are doing a bang up job (sarcasm)

  • First they cut the most skilled senior IT team members
  • Then they cut the true technical specialists ( highest paid). This had a ripple effect as those technical specialists recruited the best team members to come work with them at their new employers.
  • Hiring spree #1 ensued. ( accompanied by promotions of FnF)
  • Then they cut the best skilled who were left on the team, ripple effect of the best new hires quitting.
  • Hiring spree #2 ensued (accompanied by promotions of FnF)
  • Reorgs and stealth firings of highest paid, most skilled, - ripple effect of best new hires quitting.
  • Piling work (and threats) onto the few remaining competent enough to do the work, - ripple effect of those workers quitting.

What’s next? Of course another hiring spree and promotions for the ever growing FnF contingent. My dad said Ford’s salaried hiring is like fishing with a net and keeping everything in the net when you only want and need a few select fish in the net. Maybe its time for catch and release?

Don’t think so we had all hands this week and in June it was held after layoffs.

Our area was hit so hard in June I just can't imagine another round so soon. I'm thinking March/April 2024.

This board seems to be more about the UAW & less about layoffs as of late. I get why.

I’m wondering if next week will be the week considering we have a town hall on Monday. I thought we had those after they cut people vs prior.

It could be an interesting strategy to tell people we need to cut costs and layoff thousands sending the UAW a message. Although I doubt it would have any impact on the negotiations.

Thoughts?

If you’re still at Ford and you don’t have pension, which you probably will get robbed of anyway. Don’t stay! It’s that simple. Why work for or buy a product that clearly comes from an unethical, reverse racist company. Ford is not the company it was. The leadership are all gready narcissists who care about their well being only.

@onp,

The white collar employees don't exist as far as the public is concerned. People that are not familiar with the auto industry have no clue. The public thinks all of that "technical stuff" takes place at the plant, with maybe 10 or so UAW engineers. As long there are no UAW jobs cut everything is fine. 10,000 salary employees could be cut tomorrow and no one would know or care. If UAW jobs were cut it would be in the news 24/7.

I understand the reasoning for this date, but a mass layoff creates terribly bad optics for the ruling class and their “everything is fine!” mantra.

Russian roulette? More like the movie short called "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson.

This might bring back suppressed memories of school, now we are living it in real life every day.

A layoff in June, brings heavy corn soon!
