Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Medtronic making big increases in R&D, so they say?

I keep hearing MDT is investing more in R&D than ever, but I don't know any OU R&D groups that aren't cutting projects due to lack of funding. ?? What's going on?

Post ID: @1vzj+1oAO03RA I think people have forgotten large sums of penalties MDT paid in early 2011~ era resulting in d-mb-a-s never ending Quality Training. I guess this will will come back again once R&D’s are moved to places where short-cut is the Norm.

So Medtronic’s plan for innovation is to outsource R&D to India? JFC…

No surprise here, India and China have those huge R&D facilities, might as well use them. IMHO

Because they snipped out the other parts....

While total spend in R&D will go down as we continue to transfer our spend to lower cost geographies. Medtronic is making big increases in R&D in these particular geographies at by shifting from high cost locations like the US.

Needless to say this strategy fails miserably as you see and extreme uptick in quality issues.

a lot of quality and remediation spend gets called "R&D". Pipelines are starving everywhere.

MEIC - India has started posting openings for R&D positions. So wheels are in motion. Soon, another RIF coming in R&D groups across OUs.

They still allocate release product engineering, sustaining and some of quality to R&D. Are those growing?

Thats all on paper, plan is to eventually outsource R&D with minimal in house support.
Makes sense if you ask me, we have only come up with 3 new projects in CVG over the last 10 years
