Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

Chinese won't let the merge happen

First of all, I doubt a merge will happen. There have been talks for 3+ years and nothing happens.

Second, if an agreement is met, it need to be blessed by the Chinese and they just forced intel to not to buy tower and intel lost 500M.

So move one, that merge is not going to be agreed between parties and won't get the approval of Chinese

Are you saying you're missing the years if "HAMR is coming" and "wait for a white knight investor" announcements?

Sad these empty PR statements were rewarded so generously, while employees were treated so badly.

I hope everyones next employer contributes to their 401k.

Funny that these companies have been having accelerated merger talks for few years. That shows how incompetent both companies are. Just do a google search, they have been merging for ~3 years

Thought Intel sold their NAND line to Solidigm/SK Hynix. Intel's not in good shape either.

Apart from Kioxia and WDC, there are 5 major players (Samsung, Hynix, Micron, YMTC, Intel) selling NAND in China. No one will miss our archaic technology.

China won't let such a golden opportunity to hurt American and Japanese businesses go to waste. And after what US government did to YMTC, SMIC and Huawei, you can't blame them.

If China prevents sales of WD/Kioxia merger, then that means less competition in Chinese markets, so then Samsung and Micron can charge higher prices! Chinese consumers would be worse off! However, I agree, the most likely move is for Chinese regulators to block the deal.
