Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Info as to why?

Anyone able to claw out information as to why they were sacrificed? I tried multiple times and got the same "hard business decisions" canned nonsense.

If you're going to let me go, at least let me know why, especially when I'm in the only one on my team.

I know of way more people under 40 than over 40 who were cut. It just depends on who your network is.

“Does it seem like a higher percentage of workers over 40 were let go?”

No

Obviously CC had plenty of fat, dead weight, dissenters, etc and layoffs is the usually when they clean house. If only they really investigated the credible ethics complaints and didn't delete the evidence presented, so many people would at least feel that CC was doing the right thing. There's an RVP that definitely should be gone, but emails and files in One Drive that support the ethics violations somehow were deleted.

I wasn't told anything, but I knew the week prior because my manager wanted me to send her all my work. She claimed she was just completing updates for higher ups when she was really saving her own behind by claiming all the work was hers. I've been there a short time and was unhappy due to poor management decisions in my department. No one could lead or make a decision. Too many managers kept their jobs when they were the problem. However, they also kissed the most ...

If they were cleaning out old timers that are too set in their ways they should have been looking at managers, directors and their clans. They're great at bs ing their way thru but many of them have little or no skill. They resent any new ideas that aren't theirs. I once had a long time mgr state how she can't stand new people who suggest things based on their "experience". Insecurity. Petty. Still there. Not good for Crown but oh so good for her.

As a long timer I was told I was too set in my own ways.

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone who has been layed off will ever receive a satisfying response from their manager. I expected many PM's to be gone since the Tower CX work went away, but many remain. The Team I am on was decimated, far greater than 15%, closer to 50%, yet new people were moved into out team after the fact? Many unnecessary purple leaders kept their jobs, so many layers of fat that could be reduced was not. They will tell you it's a business decision, but more accurately it's a popularity contest. If you lack relationships with the inner circle, were a poor performer or have been around Crown too long...it became an easy decision for managers to show you the door. That's why they will never tell you why.

I wasn't in managed construction, I was in another tower department where I was the only employee let go. I wasn't given any reason as to why I was put on the chopping block other than "hard business decisions"

Pretty common sense unless I'm misunderstanding your question. I don't think they were hiding anything... managed cx has been losing money for years.

Crown has MANY available positions posted on LinkedIn, some appear to be the same jobs that were just allegedly "eliminated."

Because we are in telecom. Layoffs, death and taxes.

Towers and corporate was money (and some performance). Network was all performance (they were ordered to get rid of the lowest performers and thorns in their side)

Nepotism and fraternization have always been part of work assignments, evals, promotions, bonuses and surely layoffs. If you aren't connected you have no chance no matter how great you may be. In departments, across processes and across business lines. A tape worm destroying from within

Does anyone know the final number of employees that were layed off and how many volunteered? Seems like the number is much higher than the 15%

The simple answer is that we have been overstaffed in certain departments since project one. This has been a long time coming. I took a voluntary because there are likely more to come.

I think some of it was financial issue and mismanagement. However, they were definitely singling out people. I am one of those. I firmly believe that pointing out ethical concerns and DEI was part of my termination. For such reasons, people, if they think they fall in either of these categories, should seek legal representation. I am.
