Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Thanks Crown

Can you collect unemployment if you get severance in your state?
** Severance pay allocated by the employer to a week(s) following the date of separation is deductible from unemployment benefits. NOTE: If the income is to be deducted, but less than your weekly benefit amount, your weekly payment will be reduced by the amount of income for the week.

I was there 6 years and I'm getting only $2000.00 more. I would love $30000.00!

Must be nice to be getting 30k. Mine shows 18249 and that is with PTO and incentive. I was only there 2.5 years in permits. Permits pays low.

It depends on your state. In Georgia severance money will count towards your unemployment, but if you're eligible for unemployment for longer than the 15 weeks, you can get benefits afterwards.

How are you not getting thousands? 2.5 weeks of pay/year plus up to 3 weeks PTO, should easily be in the thousands. After taxes I'll be walking with 30k

Correct. You have to tell them when you sign your agreement that they won’t contest benefits. And then You get both.

The Crown separation FAQs say they do not make unemployment decisions and to refer to your individual state for information.

My state office website:
Under certain conditions, severance, vacation, holiday or sick pay may be allocated to a period of time in which UI benefits are claimed. You are not eligible to receive benefits for any week in which allocated severance, vacation, holiday or sick pay exceeds your weekly benefit amount. If the payments are less than your weekly benefit amount, they will be deducted as earnings. You must report severance, vacation, holiday or sick pay when you file your initial application for benefits

You can get both unemployment benefits and severance. But you have to negotiate it into your package. Get an attorney to do that for you!

So you'd rather have unemployment instead of thousands in severance?
