Layoffs to avoid bonus payments

Watching the comments about time of layoffs and thinking they would be stupid to lay people off after September 15 if they know they will laying them off, because then they would have to pay the 6 month bonuses. Wondering if this means lots of layoffs Aug 31st to save a huge bucket of money.

There is some merit in the question. VMworld is usually last few days of August. If a big cull is planned before Aug 31, it would help to be done with VMworld first (Aug 21-24 this year quite surprisingly early) and then layoff when the world is not looking.

Could also be looked at the other way, packages in the past have included pro rata bonus on termination date, by automatically giving all employees H1 bonus in September, that takes care of that for everyone regardless if they are kept or not before joining broadcoms ledger. Either way, everyone will get it.

You are focused on the small things, all this is factored into the deal and BC know exactly how much it will cost them. Not paying out on-off bonus payments and potentially the last one for a huge number of people is just not worth it for them

VMware isn't laying off anyone. It's Broadcom and they are legally not allowed to lay off anyone before official close which isn't happening in the next 30 days... Which means you are getting your bonus
