Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Ceo is clearly a liar

I don’t believe anything that VMware says. When the press leaked the acquisition was happening last year our ceo Raghu denied that VMware was being sold. All employees were emailed and told to ignore this rumour. Then less than 7 days following this email from Raghu another email came out saying BC was going to buy VMware. From the start employees have been lied to. So many employees have been loyal employees working at VMware for more than 10yrs. Is this how we are rewarded??) VPs and executives know what the future looks like but don’t have the ba--s to tell their teams what the future looks like!! Shame on you Raghu and executives

Its a fact that there will be mass lay offs for existing VMware employees over the course of the next 12 mos.

It's a fact there will be mass lay offs.

It is speculation and rumor of how many that will be and from what BUs

Didn't Magoo oversee the operational spaghetti that cripples this company today? There is no justice

It appears that BC at least knows what their main thing is (making money), and not completely rudderless as things stand here now. If Magoo thinks that the "main thing" is making customers successful, I would argue that Team Magoo has made the products and the customers anything but more successful under his watch. Quite the opposite, actually.

keep focusing on "the main thing".

LOL, you know that's a Broadcom thing too, right? Different words, but same platitudes. BC is even more direct about it. Focus on the main thing or GTFO.

The idea that PG would have been any more accommodating or transparent regarding the acquisition rumors is ludicrous. If anything, his more substantial pedigree in the corporate tech arena would have made him even more dismissive of employee concerns and feedback. The perception (and now memory) of PG was always far greater than the reality.

"We can listen to rumors, or listen to actual facts."

Its a fact that there will be mass lay offs for existing VMware employees over the course of the next 12 mos. If it makes you and other mature people feel better, keep focusing on "the main thing".

He could have left out the majority of the last 2 paragraphs instead of politely telling us all to shut up and get back to work. It’s stupid to assume no one is going to speculate and make assumptions because he tells us not too. This is sheer hubris. Just say we can’t comment on any type of news or rumors until something is official or don’t say anything at all until you can.

No, it's comms management. People, like many here, will go around and stir up discontent with rumors and speculation. We can listen to rumors, or listen to actual facts. As much as people dislike it, actual facts will come through press releases and leadership comms, not BusinessInsider/TheLayoff/Blind posts. We all knew this was going to take a long time. It su-ks to have long periods of silence between statements, but we're all very well-paid adults with jobs. We have the maturity to manage our own stress and make decisions that work best for ourselves.

This was probably the toned down version his admin rewrote for him to not sound so condescending.

Here is what his Magooness said - Team,

“We too are hearing and seeing all the media and social cycles trending about VMware in the past 14 hours or so.

As you know, our protocol here is to not comment on rumor or speculation. And please do not speculate in internal conversations, on social media, or other public settings.

My advice to all of you is to not make assumptions and stay focused on our tasks at hand in helping our customers, driving our transformation, and supporting each other.”

Name some. What are some legitimate ways he could have approached an acquisition rumor that would not have risked his job, nor jail time?

He could have pointed to the stains on his hanes t-shirt, like a Rorschach test, and said this looks like someone updating their resume.

Delusional. He would have taken his golden parachute and ran.

There is a lot we now know directly from people at Broadcom, from info. based on acquisitions of CA and Symantec, from The Register of all places.

The point is the NONE of what we know came from our VMware leaders. It would have been respectful to give us even a little bit of the same transparency BC gives it's own people.

Stop defending Magoo! No he didn’t deny it but he condescendingly told us to ignore the rumors, listen only to him, and to get back to work. He could have handled it a hundred ways better but he took the “talk to down us route” which is what he has been doing for years when he tells us we only sell one product and to focus on the main thing. The dude is so oblivious and enamored with himself, he can’t see what a joke of a c suite executive he is. The man is seriously a laughing stock even to c level leaders outside the company. He’s earned every bit of his reputation as an aloof slob.

He didn't deny it. He said that they don't comment on rumors. Yes he knew at this point. No he was not legally allowed to say anything. What would you have done differently?

OMG don’t forget the US can fire you at anytime

Yes, and in the US we can quit at any time. They have the freedom to no longer employ us, we have the freedom to no longer be employed by them.

I know to someone of your ilk, that kind of freedom is both scary and incomprehensible. I know you think Big Brother is there to protect you. To quote a better man than I, "may your chains rest lightly upon you."

Anytime Magoo is questioned about anything related to his poor leadership skills he calls up Betsy - “Quick Betsy I’m getting beat up out there. Distract everyone with DEI anecdotes and virtue signaling. Everyone will feel forced to applaud and smile.”

Haha the guy below is delusional. Clearly knows nothing about the world. US has freedoms and U.K./EU has none. OMG don’t forget the US can fire you at anytime no ifs or buts, the U.K. and more so the EU protect employees. For better or worse. Freedom for the corporates and not the people. Did you know that. So the consumer who is the employee is in the toilet anyway. Lol

Is there any possibility FTC will block the deal? Why have not they approved yet, it has been so long?

Because in America we have presumed freedom. The government doesn't have to approve such mergers, mergers are presumed to be legal and the FTC has to prove the merger would cause harm.

The EU and UK have no such freedoms, so they had to give their stamp of approval first.

Symantec had a similar profile of seasoned and loyal employees, dismal performance, and 70% laid off in short order. You seem to be in denial

Su-k it up mate. That’s life. It now all about saving what’s left of vmw, the heydays have gone, the company is bloated, BC is here to save and capitalise on the tech. Some will win some will loose. That’s life. Always have a plan B. No company owes you anything. You do a job, you get paid you crack on.
