Thread regarding VMware layoffs

What's coming

I think they will layoff all redundant positions, trim sales, and reduce fluff engineering staff. Then I think they will try and package whatever they can (Carbon black most certainly) and sell those BU’s off to recoup cash and reduce headcount at the same time.

Pretty much exactly what @ugh+1o0aBAMq said.

“I just lmao at this because in my experience, PS based in India for global accounts are way better than those in Americas, no politics, they get the job done 24/7 and all speak English you a--hole. They get the do it very well, better than other regions.”

I guess we’ve had very different experiences then…

Your manager and HR will communicate, not Broadcom

someone has mentioned that Broadcom is going to communicate your fate prior to acquisition and this is how they did it both with the CA and Symantec acquisitions.

I am wondering how they can communicate layoffs without having official control of the company, does not make much sense to me. Until they officially close how can they make decisions about VMW staff?

Can anyone clarify how this happened with CA and Symantec?

But where will the people who have no actual computer industry skills, or
knowledge of their actual job go, and what will they do?

Let's hope they can help themselves, because they certainly can't help people who file the tickets they answer.

'There is always need for local Professional Services. Nobody is going to pay the $$'s for cr-ppy Indian call center PS that has no idea what they're doing and can't speak the local language. Sure, it might be cut back, but you can't get rid of them all'

"Twitter is still alive after cutting 50% "

LOL... the Musk fans think that losing advertisers, allowing a competitor to eat your lunch and to be spinning around not knowing what you are doing is a model to aspire to.

Hock said so himself on the first all staff he participated. Whoever wonders if there'll be layoffs either didn't listen or wasn't at vmware at the time.

Most, but not all.

Twitter is still alive after cutting 50% - I am sure VMware could easily lose 60-70% and still be alive and kicking.

Don't forget the DEI team. I guess they are under HR, but I'm pretty sure virtue signaling doesn't bring in any revenue.

just my two cents. I think the obvious cuts will be services that are shared.

No idea on how many people this is? 2k?

Next.
Agreed Sales will be cut back, if your on commercial accounts your gone. (Look at what TK did at Citrix, he cut commercial AEs/SEs and counties where they didn't make a lot of money).
I think carbon black will be spun off

No idea about Engineering, Professional Services and Customer Success.
