Burnout is really bad for your mental health. It gnaws away at your confidence too. Take a leap, you'll be nervous, but I found it boosts your productivity and that opens doors.
is that possible that there will be no severance package for the upcoming LRs?
Sadly there is no one true answer. People have been feeling this way for many decades in many "less than optimal" work environments so you aren't alone. While there are no guarantees a good job jump can make life much better.
If you've banked a significant amount of money and are willing to have a long job hunt either will do. Some web searching indicates the tech job market hasn't collapsed but it is getting more difficult and if that continues the longer you wait the more difficult it will be to get a new job. In the US hiring often slows down from mid-November through mid-January so plan accordingly for your locale.
One problem with burnout is it gets worse. I reached a point where I looked at the tasking available across a range of groups I had insight into and none of them were doing useful work which meant I wasn't maintaining useful skills, and that feeling makes it harder to sell yourself into a real opportunity elsewhere. If you are in a similar boat think about how you'd rebuild useful skills either inside or outside of Cisco so when the inevitable happens you are in the right headspace to make the jump, and if using a break between jobs is necessary to bulk up have a plan to make good use of that time in a way that doesn't leave you still feeling burnt out or without any real advancement in skills.
Either way most employers are extreme conformists so make sure you can explain leaving by choice or by layoff. If you are laid off and coaching services are offered this is an area where they may be able to help.
hack'em leave drop dead hacks all over
I'm still not sure which is the better option, whether to leave August 31 or wait until October. I don't have a next job lined up yet since I'm just taking a break from being burnt out, so I was thinking about leaving in October. Is there a benefit to leaving in August instead? Thanks a lot in advance.
Nonsense
wait, so they're not even giving garden leave? they tell you you're out and make you work another month?
even for cisco's standards that's fu---d
Take a vacation. You don't have to work, but still get paid.
