Thread regarding Ford layoffs

My manager is saying our department should be protected from layoffs in future

Is he just BSing me?

Should I seriously start applying and have an offer before what it looks like is September(?) when the next round is happening.

Meant to start off with this:
"Is there anything former employees can do to hold Ford accountable?"
Does anyone know the names of lawyers that handle cases like this?

I'm wondering this same thing.

And, does anyone know names of lawyers who handle cases like this?

Is there anything former employees can do to hold Ford accountable? After SRD there was a handful of long term employees who sued after being let go. After evidence was found proving that Ford targeted older, high performing employees with a growing pension Ford settled out of court. Can’t believe Ford was stupid enough to do it again.

Is there anything employees who are laid off can do to hold Ford accountable? They are hiring yet firing long time employees. The manager would not give the process of who they decided to lay off. Can a group of laid off employees ban together to file a claim against Ford? (Heard this happened in the last lay off?).

  1. Your manager has no clue. Last August entire teams from the LL5 down were cut. If he's in the cut list too, he won't know it until 10 minutes before his access is removed.
  1. Even if he's not in the list he has no way of knowing that any of you are. These decisions are made at the LL4+ level. GSRs cut in August had LL6s that had no idea until after the employee was told by the LL4 that they were terminated.
  1. Even if he were told this, it is subject to change in a heart beat. If they UAW strikes everyone, LL2s on down, will be a potential layoff.

tldr; your boss is full of brown smelly waste

Yes, it's bs or innocent ignorance. I told team members the same, then lost one of my best last year. Thanks to Ford for taking decisions out of line level leaders and leaving it to out of touch LL4s.

Should and won’t are two different things . Your manager is just trying to cover his a-s. He may be out the door himself/herself, etc. I think this time around even management aren’ t too sure or secure.

Don't believe it. Our team was also told this and now we have a new manager who is making changes - looking like one of them is me. We're not running things the way we used to, so it looks like my job has been eliminated on the team too. As a contractor who was just extended, this is a big blow. My direct Ford counterparts are not feeling safe anymore either.
I think there will be trickledown layoffs over the next few weeks as new managers change up teams.

Do what you got to do... There is work out there either way. if you are paranoid about a layoff then find another job... Me if i get laid off whatever i will find another job easy this is not 2008 and even if it was what would su-k is in that case i would have to leave the state of michigan again.

Yes - just BS. It's always BS at Ford. We were told the same thing a few months ago. I was let go from PD at the end of June. My 'position was eliminated', but I know it was magically created . . . in Mexico. 'Americans LAST' is their motto dictated to them by their corrupt 'fashist' government cronies. My new motto: F Ford First !

Believe only half of what you see and none of what you hear. Get your resume together and start networking.

First this manager itself is not guaranteed to be there .Not sure how he can provide false security to others.

Ford is trying to do damage control at this time. Find a better job and leave.

He maybe telling you what he believes to be true now…but direction from above can change at any time. You also don’t know if someone above him is BSing him.

Our supervisor assured us that we would be working on the upcoming ADAS system just a few months ago. This supervisor lost 2/3 of his group on that Tuesday. Don’t believe anything anyone there tells you.

Good until he is told to just-do-it.

“Should” is the important part of that statement. Not confidence inspiring and the manager is only speaking to the near term.
