Questions about retention bonuses for closing locations

I know the likelihood of getting retention bonuses in this climate is low. But I'm curious if anyone- especially someone in a closing office- has asked or been offered one?

It's not about the money exactly. It's the acknowledgement that my manager wants to keep me. My office is closing but my team is remote and I know I'm a genuine asset. Do the retention bonuses promise payout if you do get laid off? Is it possible at all to explore this option? How?

(It's not about the money, but if course the money would help. :) I'm not going to be happy if I get laid off and its before we get our bonuses in March.)

There is zero chance of this happening

The only retention bonuses handed out in the last couple years were related to the transition teams. And they are large.

I dont agree. I dont think they actually give a damn about people being in office- least of all high performers whose productivity they depend on. They need natural attrition and people who will take any old remote job are maybe people they can afford to lose.

My question was for those who are getting retention bonuses. I'm sure some people are getting them and I want to know how.

Your retention bonus is retaining your job.

You won't be happy if you are laid off before bonus on March? Bonus is going to be very low, they're already preparing us for it. A package would probably be higher. I'd be praying for one over a bonus. I don't think you stand a chance for a retention. They want you in an office.
