Yesterday / Today several CHIEFs, Jim Baumbick, several other EXEC management staffers, VEV, Operations Management and the CAL manager are in MEX visiting the new Global Technology and Business Center (GTBC) for Town Halls, business / PD-operation reviews and Partnership Meetings. Lots of horsepower in this dog and pony show, there not showing off the new carpeting since the opening six months ago. The follow-up layoffs, movement, employee leveling is coming, just like with Jim Hacket. The so called filling of voids just created due to the restructuring will be here soon.
A few months back the lady running GTBC showed everyone their capabilities, facilities and manpower in a Webex meeting. The meeting ended with her requesting FNA to send them all the work they have all this extra capacity and manpower. Operations management will take of all that.
Don’t think for a minute these jobs are safe in FNA, they are moving. The lab/CAL work will be in Mexico and computer/CAE/software will be in Chennai. GTBS is EVV / SIL / HIL capable and / or getting to it fast.
My guess is the ICE moves to MEX initially, followed by EVV vehicles. If you are lucky, you will be able to land a program management job to work between all the regions until the pendulum swings and they are at full capability. Your salary in FNA is too damn much and cuts into executive management's bonus, you know they get paid on stock performance, engineering costs per employee and not to forget the new MBA word of the week: EBITA.
Most executive management folks say they have this week as vacation, don’t be fooled. If you must, do some digging if you need proof for yourself. (Wednesday was the GTBS event startup, all week long and runs 1st week in July)
Didn’t your town hall / ford blue get canceled the other day until late July? Your newly hired counterparts in the low-cost-country have taken your jobs and are now having big ribbon cutting ceremonies, lunch and cake extravaganzas ! Fat and happy down south of the border while our colleagues suffer with losing their jobs. Greed drove all this, now $10M, $20M isn’t sufficient anymore, they want it all. Just look at their newly implemented business practices, come into AEC touting this “is now 24x7, this is how we do it at Tesla”.
Look at our competitors, during the very hard times of 2007 Toyota did not lay off anyone. They retooled their assembly lines, retrained and made quality improvements. That is everyone, not some, but all. Despite any negative talk anyone has heard about that company since they are our competitor, they not only talk about treating their employees like family – they proved it ! Our coworkers have their lives, families and futures turned upside down so a few folks at the top can take all the money for their own fat-&-happy families, without any sharing amongst the employees in terms of job security / career longevity.
Once upon a time, the CEO’s and upper management at these large corporations used to mingle with the working level, until the dollar started driving all the decisions. A million or two was sufficient for the boys at the top, but now they pillage the coffers until they’re empty. When the war chest runs out, there needs to be no bailouts !
There was a time just a little bit ago when our president had the backbone to tell these corporate greedy ba----ds that they will get a huge tariff if they move the business, but lots of crying about how mean that was and now look at the situation. Unfortunately, this is pure greed and now cutting into the real friends and family at the working level, nothing was ever real between the owners and workers anyways.
Would be interesting to see if Roush is constructing a building nearby this facility to build and instrument vehicles, this would be a sure telltale sign that it's all moving including the building of TPC / DCV prototypes. (ouch)
Here are the brand new engineering centers, in case you have not seen them. An
