Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Confusing and Chaotic Organization - Gift from Consulting companies (BCG, Deloitte, etc)

Ford keeps engaging expensive consulting companies like BCG, Deloitte, McKinsey etc. These companies have direct hotline to top leaders and are good in selling the C-suite on bill of worthless bullsh-ts. Examples: BCG engagement (rumor is that it costed over 400 million $$ during Jim Hackett times), and one of the BCG outcomes was SRD (Smart Redesign) organization. It wasted so much of company resources (employee hours) and produced an organization which created utter confusion and chaos. Many good people got laid off that time. Soon after, SRD was staffed with new hires and org structure kept getting fatter and more confusing. Soon after came Conway re-org. Before we can figure out that Conway structure, we got hit with Ford Blue/ Model E/ Ford Pro structure. Not to mention that we kept changing Ford Values (or Ford Turths) - everytime we get a new CEO. Deloitte had multi year engagement called "Digital Thread" that produced nothing but grief, and finally got terminated in March 2023. So much of cr-p thrown at C-suite, which does not do anything for our customers. So many new groups created with catchy Dept Names, in last few years... and many of us do not even know what they do to earn their pay check. I am sure some of the readers can also name few such groups... I hope JF (good Car Guy) will now stabilize the organization (stop changing it) and start getting rid of beuracracy. His vision makes sense but i can not understand his reliance on outside consultants and newly hired senior leaders from outside (instead of trusting time tested leaders like HTT, Galhotra, Baumbick etc). These outside folks have no loyalty to Ford. Some of them have already started exiting after their honeymoon period of empty sermonizing preachings, and then followed by non-performance.

Old skool saying from 'back in the day': Q: How do you define 'consultant' at Ford ? A: Friend or family member they up with a shell company that's located at least 50 miles away from HQ. That's how you get your New Expert Consultant Business Partner Love Team (NECBPLT) ! Yay !

When Ford decided to emulate Toyota back I the early 90s, they did great.

When they went back to emulating GM, they nose-dived. Now they’re trying to be Tesla? Tesla isn Tesla without Musk. There’s no Musk at Ford. It just won’t work.

Hey Ford, why not try something really radical: Crack open those old dusty history books and try emulating the Ford of Henry Ford? Or even better. Don’t emulate anything. Be a leader instead of a fast-follower.

Fartley IS the problem. He chases anything bright & shiny. Oooh! Lookie there! Let's be like Tesla!
Ignoring the fact that Toyota just marches along, doing their thing and NOT managing their business like an adhd squirrel. And they are the most profitable automaker in the world. More profitable than Muskla. Dominating every quality measure. And not having to fire thousands of employees every 10 months to stay afloat.

And Billy-boy must be the stooop-idest person to ever inherit a company. How did he live through the Mullaly Era and not learn ANYTHING about common sense management? They are r@ping the trucks with ridiculous material cost save targets in order to pay for the disaster known as Model e. Perfect example of biting the hand that feeds you. And the only ideas those low-cost engineers (u get what u pay for) south of the border can offer are deleting features/content from the customers.

OP, you lost me on the last paragraph. Jim Farley and Bill Ford are the root cause of this mess. Until Farley is gone and the Ford family steps away from direct involvement in company operations, there is little hope for positive change.

Hey id--t, Farley IS the problem. He is NOT a car guy - he is a sociopath, a fraud, a manipulator. Majority of vehicle programs are a mess, no one works together, backstabbing has become a sport a Ford. The cuts were done to boost the stock price through the elimination of older pensioned talent and to eliminate any threats to Farley's rule. D Field copies old Tesla methods while the industry moves on. B Ford doesnt possess any good decision-making capabilities. Look at C-suite and try to identify just 3 profitable outcomes from them. Not possible. If the Ford family - which dominate the BoD really want change, eliminate Farley.
