Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Offer Withdrawn

I have literally jumped through hoops for months and provided all documents, attended medicals etc. Offer was withdrawn today. No Explanation. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Given it’s the new year, this is probably because the headcount has been taken away from the hiring organization by SVP/EVP, thus they can no longer hire into that role.
Management love to upset business plans with their imbecilic orders, nobody ever dares question why.

I received an offer a month ago, negotiated and accepted offer. I got the offer withdrawn three working days after providing all information to clear contingencies.

No explanation provided and not even a written note. Just an email to agree the time for a quick call. All was said verbally and no explanation on the why they reached that decision.

This is really disappointing but looking at the silver lining at least they are doing at an early stage and not when working during the notice period.

It could be worse. You could be asked to fly out without a contract, or even seen it.

Yes I have thoughts. Your mistake was to believe anything they said. If you’re dealing with a corrupt organisation better to know it up front so there will be no surprises. Aramco will do what they want when they want to who they want. Of you have kids you have just saved their long term health.

Aramco = Sc-m.
As others said, you dodged a bullet.

Did you read the post well? I wrote TENTATIVE travel date. They were advising him to try and still make it before July 1 so he can get his bonus for the year. He hasn't been advised to resign yet but the lady said he should try and use his vacation if he doesn't have enough days to give two weeks notice. Believe it or not but it's the truth. Visa was already stamped. Waiting for final approval to resign but got dropped instead.

If they do this when you haven’t even started what do they do when you are there? They can get rid of you in a month and you have to leave the country.

In the USA two weeks is pretty standard. The story rings true to me.

To @1oou+1nkt8sm4

I am having a hard time believing you. You said you’re 2 weeks to go to KSA, & yet your husband has not resigned yet from his current work. Companies have minimum 1 month to resign! Are you serious?

Aramco is a joke. Imagine a proper company doing this without explanation? They’d be sued into the Stone Age.

If you had not passed your background check, then it’s likely something came up with this. Or as others mentioned, the hiring organisation might have had internal changes or received instructions to reduce manpower. Those under offer would be the first to be impacted. Sorry that it happened to you.

This is textbook aramco behaviour. Happens all the time. They don’t give a fig. They are sc-m.

Bottom line is they have done you a favour. You’ve dodged a bullet. Move on with your life and never EVER think about aramco ever again.

So sorry to hear that and I can imagine how bad you must feel! Can I ask you what team/department were you going to join. Also at what stages were you, had they told you to resign and you had all your visa medical and contingencies cleared?

This just happened to my family. Aramco disrupted our lives for about five month and dropped my husband just two weeks to tentative travel date. Passport already stamped. Thank goodness he didn't resign yet. No reason was provided. We already started adjusting our lives to go. It hurts so bad especially when you have to mentally being yourself back to your job and life when you had already mentally left and just waiting to fly.

Sorry to hear this. Aramco is a flakey organization at best. The job and department you interview for may not have even been involved in your recruitment. This may be the best thing in the long run. If you're from the west, and aramco sent you an email or letter instructing you that you can give notice to your employer, I would talk to a lawyer. They may owe you wages for the probation period. I think they extended probabtion past 3 months.

Recruiting is disconnected from departments. Most likely in a final revision, a manager consider your offer high and request to withdraw it. ELP is this year and this means a new target for Saunization needs to be meet. Most efforts are dedicated for training of locals. Also there is some time were contractors ask for being direct employees then taking the spot of a new hire in progress. Take it as a bless in disguise.

Did they send you an email telling you to quit your current job? If you actually quit an existing job for this offer, then I suggest you speak with a lawyer. If Aramco just dropped you half way through the background check, then maybe you failed something.

They have changed their mind (as simple as that). Manpower planning is an illusionary concept whose projections get revised per the whims of Department Heads who either want to meet a budget, or demographic KPI and have no qualms about putting the workload on an existing expat (plus his normal duties) whilst supposedly training a local… it’s all smoke and mirrors.
