Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

A sad day

My spouse was truly passionate about his career at illumina putting in countless hours of overtime and always trying to push things to the next level. He is one among the many recently laid off. Needless to say, this is a big blow considering that he poured his heart into his work without even a thank-you in the exit meeting. Fortunately, those who knew him, his drive and contributions to the company
validated his work. Thank-you to those of you who showed your support! My heart goes out to all of you who were affected by these cuts as you are not just numbers but human beings with stories to tell. Good luck to you all!

I was told by my manager that if they couldn’t differentiate employees by performance, they were told to select people that had shown any aversion now or in the past to coming into the office or the company culture

Illumina was once a great company to work for. I was one of the many who was let go during a mass layoff in Nov of 2022. After 16 years of different experiences and just like that going in on a normal day and was cut as if I was not valued. Had no real explanation on how they chose, but they just had to get rid of workers. It was very SAD! Sometimes it makes you think how passionate and hardworking you should be with a company at times and if you are even noticed and if it’s even worth the stress and hard work you do daily and just like that they can easily get rid of you..

Sorry to hear that. My gf works at Illumina, and while I am envious of the gazillion team events and social activities they promote - I am stunned to hear how tone-deaf management appears to be with regard to who gets let go and who stays on.

Sorry to hear, his manager flagged him to be laid off. His manager valued others.

Sorry about your situation.

I know one of my acquaintance working there - "vacationing" most of the time. Seeing social media posts from time to time.

I dont know if he is still there or not. Looks like it might be politics in play and he might still be around there.

Sad to see so many people who care about true values are laid off. It's a shame of current HR to evaluate performance by the level of shamelessness? So many flatterers doing nothing but kissing a-s get promoted. If Illumina keeps showing disrespect to scientists and engineers, it's doomed.
