Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why outsourcing is not working.

We all recognize that talent is global, and therefore, that you can then find great talent everywhere.

We should also recognize that you get what you pay for.

So if EM goes to a low cost location and EM offers a sh1tty compensation, it shouldn't be a surprise thay it will not attract the top tier talent in such location, but a mediocre one.

And this is what EM is doing.

@2txi+1njh6cmv managers only priority is to be a cheerleader for this theft of American employment and claiming credit for the amount of work redirected to the low cost - get what you pay for centers. Cut American headcount! Cut American headcount! Rah, I did it! I am so awesome! They are so removed they have no clue of the degree of rework or volumn of useless incorrect work products. The drivers are obvious!

@2kwx How much engineering does anyone at EM really do?

EM and other large O&G companies reduced most engineering functions to little more than sizing and purchasing equipment from third party vendors a long time ago.

On balance, US-based employees communicate better, but they’ve been “checked-out” to such a great extent for so long that the difference in work quality from low-cost centers is becoming negligible.

India and KLTC should be sending their work to the manager(s) in Houston and not to staff that report to management in Houston.

If there is a problem with the work product in India or KLTC, then the manager should deal with the problem directly and not delegate it to a direct report in Houston to fix.

What’s really pathetic is that we have to do the work anyway if the job is going to get done yet when you give accurate feedback, you are tagged as a non team player because you aren’t telling management what they want to hear. Then you guessed it. Pip feedstock

You know exactly what OP is talking about. You India engineers are average or below average. And if you are not, you will be resigning soon because there are plenty of opportunities that pay much better.

Those that stick around are the mediocre ones.

Don't get me wrong, the same is happening in the US too. The difference is that in the US they offer that pension and the little talent that is left tend to stick around because they are close to retirement.

I have worked with competent people from India and I have worked with people that had no clue about basic items and were unreachable.

Seems EM is paying lower than average for India and the good ones leave quickly. Attrition is high in BTC and the good ones are the ones that are leaving.

And NO, NO, NO - We DO NOT all recognize that talent is global! Many of us still believe in taking care of the United States first and foremost! So don't be so arrogant to take the liberty to speak for ALL OF US! American companies should have loyalty to American citizens first! Period!

It's true the compensation is bad. No wonder those after possessing the marketable skills chose to leave. Good for them.

Agree with OP.

Not trying to discredit.

The discredit has been earned.

I've worked with teams in India with my previous employer. Those engineers were top notch.

The EM india engineers not so much. My experience is that quality and quantity is mediocre at best.

Sad part, I heard even in KL or BTC, Exxon is not offering the highest compensation......so once those ppl gets up to speed, they will be going to the highest bidder.

It's not working. You have to explain it to them 50 times then have weekly meetings. In the end you're fed up and take it over just to get it done correctly. It's a waste of time dealing with HCL and the GBCs. What could take me a day or 2 of dedicated time gets pushed to months and months of waste and correcting.

Sounds like someone is just trying to discredit a group of people that can do more than you at a much lower cost. #GaslightMuch?
