Uhh, they are leased only because it looks better on the finance sheets. If you pulled the ownership history for these three jets you would find 3M was the initial buyer from Gulfstream for all three and did a sale/leaseback with the banks. That happened maybe 5 years ago if I recall correctly.

This is commonly done to obfuscate the true owners/operators of private jets. If you looked at the registrations only you would think the Bank of Utah has probably the 2nd largest air force in the world.

3M doesn’t own the jets, they are leased

Only update I have is N73M returning home from London.

I agree with the sentiment that management should see 3M business out in the field. I think that the benefits of private jet travel are greatly outweighed by the astronomical costs to own and operate the jets. Imagine a 3M where instead of spending $250,000 to send a few executives to some town halls when we can use the same money to have 50 or more people travelling if they all flew commercial.

Personally, I would prefer leadership who gets out and travels and understands the impact of their decisions vs. leaders who sit at home or at headquarters and make decisions. Our leaders should get out and travel more...all of them. We have to stop making decisions at the top and start meeting with all levels of the organization.
