Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

Striving to have the best possible performance

The last layoffs were not based on performance and that's why I wonder if it makes any sense at all to try to perform as well as possible in order to make your position more secure in case of the next layoffs?
I'm skeptical that it would make any difference.

Definitely done going above and beyond for nothing. Bitter sweet leaving behind what I built and the unfinished opportunity. But there was never any reward.

This is business, and I simply haven't been compensated properly. Take care everyone still left. I'm taking my other offer.

RIFs happen due to finances. Who gets picked is ultimately performance based although decisions are made at a very high level and well in advance. I forget the source, but the saying "The bullet that ki-ls you has already been fired." seems to apply. Work every day as if your career depends on it.

I don’t mind working hard and going the extra mile to help deliver products. However, after the SanDisk leadership took over, the culture here changed for the worst. It has become toxic and of one of entitlement. I’ve seen people who worked very hard, who were contributing and with great ethic affected by the RIF in November and in May. Yet, we still have 10+ Directors working in a single program. Why do we need so many? Do you know how much $ we could save if we only had 1-2 Directors per program. We could have saved plenty of individual contributors, and first level managers who are actually doing the work that’s produces results. Why can’t DG see the inefficiency and the $ being wasted?

I work hard as a matter of pride. I was raised to earn my paycheck. That being said this is not the place to go the extra mile to earn promotion. Find a better place if you can or ride it out.

Nope....treat your job like it's a contract position, get the value you can for yourself and prep for your next move to a better company. Don't get comfortable at all, that's the life of a contactor survive
