Gov Investigation for age and other forms of illegal discrimination

Update: Investigation commences this week. Yes, it takes time to get such set up.

Hopefully I'll be able to post an official email contact. In the meantime, collect evidence of EEOC, ADA, age discrimination and so forth. Concrete evidence is best, but issues that show a pattern are also helpful.

If you suspect you were terminated or "laid off" because of vax status, please know that in several states that is also illegal.

I saw an internal HR memo once that said to not hire Asian (Indian)…I get diversity and it should be a focus, but there is no reason to directly target a specific race for removal.

Ehm, how else do you get diversity into Cisco? :P

BTW, why should I care for diversity. Why is it good?

For those that haven't been involved in hiring, companies have been doing background checks for more than 25 years and suing your previous employer, even for cause, never looks good.

I support standing up against injustice, but be sure to know and manage your risk.

...when was the last time anyone ever won an age discrimination suit?

Having worked with many Directors and Principal Engineers I can say the managerial and technical leadership at Cisco is extremely poor. There are plenty of e-mail trails showing where these people didn't grasp concepts taught by the end of a sophomore computer science program which means it should be easy in many cases to show these people are not competitive regardless of age, title or income, and the program overruns that would make a defense contractor blush and outright cancellations can also show incompetence. That incompetent management promoted them means their evaluations aren't necessarily worth much.

Age discrimination is a real thing, but saying every time an old person is laid off is age discrimination is simply wrong.

Na-na, na-na, boo-boo is a game for kids. When people leave Cisco they miss the people. We should all aspire to be one of them.

"Great idea, waste your time and money fighting the good fight against a company with bottomless pockets and better attorneys."

Government based. That was specifically stated.

The outcome will likely impact contracts with gov orgs.

Witness has already come forward with evidence of age discrimination planning at higher levels of the company.

If anyone else who has been a part of the plan discussions or was "encouraged" to hire younger staff to replace older employees, fill slots in the transition, or the "hire young only to fire to make the stats look ok" plan, please be prepared to submit that info when requested.

LOL this is pathetic.

Great idea, waste your time and money fighting the good fight against a company with bottomless pockets and better attorneys. Keep those fingers crossed, you just might join a class action suit where you can get $3.62 after five years of litigation!

Here's a better idea: why don't you use your time to do something productive with your worthless life.

honestly there are way more older people here than younger people, in my department 75% are over 50 so it makes sense that more older people are let go. I dont think this is going to go anywhere

You mention states so I’m assuming it’s a federal investigation? Which agency is investigating?

Talking about companies in general, they need far fewer people at higher levels than lower levels so the whole class can't advance to the next grade each year. By definition that means people bunch up at the grade at which they cannot perform. Neither the employer nor employee wants the employee to take a step back in grade and pay and stay there forever when more competent people are always coming up. The result is a lot of high paid under performing bodies and at some point it becomes time for them to go.

As dismal as this is the alternative is no one gets let go and the company eventually goes bankrupt because they cannot remain competitive, at which point everyone is out on the street.
