Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Doing minimal work

It is interesting that there are also those who, due to fear of getting laid off, work more than ever, thinking that it will make a difference. I wonder how they manage to focus on work in such a tense atmosphere?

Work hard. Work easy. Either way makes no difference at this point. You do you.

I work hard whether it's my first day, 3650th day, or my last day. That is just my work ethic. I don't work harder, or strive to do the minimal, I always work hard. This also helps me to not think about it. We all cope in different ways, but for me, heads down, so my work, helps me to not focus on the anxiety. It is happens it happens.

I’m sure it’s a little too late to increase their performance now. Maybe it’s how they cope.

But, I’m certain the selection process is complete by now, it’s being reviewed by Legal, outside counsel, third party’s that will support, to ensure the company is protected.

After that, HR will begin assembling packages, multiple reviews to ensure accuracy of individual packages, before they’ll finally conduct layoffs.

Given the expected size of layoffs, I’m sure there is a huge effort based on location, in office, not in office, individual impact, full team impact, coordination with facilities, security, securing conference rooms, technology to turn off access, security to turn off badges on certain date/time, boxes for facilities to mail belongings for in office employees) etc.

That would be my guess.

Your performance has minimal bearing on whether you get laid off. Unless you do something outlandishly bad (like not do anything for two months or not showing up to any meeting) you’d be fired, not laid off.
