He didnt say why, however he said we only have until end of next week to complete the task.
Is this a sign that layoffs are coming soon?

this reminds me of when HGST and WD first merged. They sent out a link where they were trying to determine the network that employees used to get their job done. It was pretty obvious why they were asking- looking for employees that were single islands that could be cut. I ran around a couple of weeks telling everyone to include everyone else. Garbage in/garbage out.
Never did publish that result, though the head data scientist said they would. Liars then and still liars today.
I would rather take sick leave for the whole last week, and look for new jobs outside
what a d-mb ask. Does your manager not know what you do?
@1j...the list is already ready
Yes. WD managers do periodic reviews of employees. There is an annual review that is used for raises, bonus levels and promotions.
@1uzf+1nVcIiqC wd has reviews? it’s a serious question
Relax, it's quarterly review season. Performance ratings are being done for everyone.
Yes. This does sound ominous.
That said, “be vague in your responses” and similar advice seems like a good way to move from “possibly on the layoff list” to “definitely on the layoff list”.
Yes.
Wants to know your job responsibilities to see who can cover for you after the boot. Sad your manager doesn't even know your contributions to begin with.
That is not a good sign. Don't do what he is asking. If you are getting screwed, make sure he feels the pain too.
document your tasks very poorly.
Are there any layoff's in IT this month?
Yeah, I'd be worried if I were you. If he was asking for accomplishments, he could be justifying your rating. But just documenting your tasks, that's not a good sign in this environment.
yeah, congrats, and away from this wreckage
