Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Advice. Stick around?

Once RTO was announced, I saw the writing on the wall.

I started applying outside of the company for remote positions. But according to our one MD- “TheY dOnT ExIst”

Then when they announced layoffs I was obviously concerned.

I have an offer with a company - Full time, it pays more- but I lose a lot of things such as Short term, long term, the PTO is 8 days less, the health insurance is OK, not the best but good.

They are willing to give me a bit more per year if I want to stay on cobra.

They want me to start on 09/11. My question is- do I stick around and find out if my position gets cut? I have honestly no problem burning the bridge with the contracting company despite starting the paperwork. But I am unsure.

I love my team.

I love the work.

I get constant good feedback from my management.

I don’t know what to do

Org - CTS,57. Not sure if TC plays a role…but I’m up there I feel.

I know I’m blessed to have found something so fast but I do not know what to do.

Advice from anyone?

The fact that people genuinely think the OP should just quit and leave the next day shows this site is mainly made of low level drones who have read too much /r/antiwork.

OP, that new job sounds sh-t. The chances of you being let go are still maybe 1.5/10. If RTO bothers you that much then go, but you can hold out for something better.

“ he OP is that sort of guy who asks for advice and calls people id**t for telling the law . At will employment means you leave today if you want . Whether you do or not is yours to decide. And company can lay you in an instant . Talk about professional technologist .”

Lol. I know the law. The product I support is niche as fu-k - I’m also known in the community - and by our by our vendors for the technology stack that I work on. I’m sure just leaving would bode well.

I also respect my team. All of whom would have zero influence as far as deciding if I’m layed off.

I would take it. You can always become a Schwoomerang when the dust settles at Schwab if the new gig isn't working out.

OP:

“ Wow OP went negative from one comment. Don’t ask for anymore help.”

Yes. Because it was a stupid fu----g comment. Anyone that does this at our/my job level is an id--t.

OP here

2 years

Some vacation. Lots of sick time

I do like the idea of seeing how the next month or so plays out.

Maybe I’ll get cut and get the severance.

Maybe I can negotiate a raise but that’s dangerous in this climate I feel

It’s 100% remote.

Also, to whomever said that I don’t have to give two weeks notice- you have a single digit IQ. That’s something I would only expect to see on r/antiwork. Not when I’m an experienced technology professional.

If you don’t get laid off then you can ask Schwab for a raise and if they can’t match it, you can take the offer.

If you negotiated properly, you can buy your own short term and long term disability with your increased pay. Nothing says you have it through your employer as a benefit.

Personally, if the uncertainty about your job is affecting your quality of life, how much would it be worth to you to regain it? Sometimes benefits can't easily be measured in dollars.

Is it remote or hybrid? Just curious if your stuck in office.

Post-accept declines are common. See how the next month shakes out. That gives you time to potentially cash in on a severance AND start the role. If Schwab keeps you and you decide to stay, just tell the other firm- sorry, old employer made me an offer I can't refuse. ;)

OP: how many years have you been here? Hours of vacation saved? These play into how much of a severance you’d be walking away from. Need to know that number to make an informed decision. You put the time and effort in, why not wait and cash out if you’re cut?

I second what @xvc+1nSE9SXE wrote, hang around. Especially if you are in tech.
