Does anyone know if I am free to file unemployment now that I received my severance pay? I am in Michigan and is there a restriction?

@3ijx+1nPrttQw this is wrong.
If you file after severance they will still count those weeks against your unemployment. Lots found that out the hard way.
Ford's response to a Michigan unemployment claim will be you are receiving x number of months of severance. If you begin claiming weeks of unemployment now, your unemployment benefit will be adjusted to the extent that if the weekly equivalent of you severance exceeds 1.5 of your unemployment benefit amount, you will get nothing. If you claim weeks of unemployment during your severance period, you are wasting those weeks. Wait until your severance period is over, if you dont find another job by then.
When you file for unemployment the system asks if you are still receiving severance pay. If you are receiving severance they reject your claim but when you are done receiving severance then you can get unemployment.
this is at will employment...stop bi--hing and complaining
Why just get unemployment?
If everyone laid off sues Ford, I am sure their behavior will change.
You file before your severance period ends, Ford will deny it.
However, if you file an appeal then Ford will go ahead and pay. It will cost them more to fight it in court than just to start paying you.
