Vmware always used to keep layoff H1B employees on payroll for 60 days as a courtesy. Can the same thing be possible this time with broadcom layoff? Can Broadcom keep these employees on 60 days in their payroll? Is it unlikely?

Broadcom doesn’t care about H1Bs and in general strongly avoids hiring H1Bs. You have some managers that are from say India that lobby hard they can’t find none H1Bs and get approval to hire but in general you must hire US citizen of green card holder.
VMW stock went down because AVGO went down from 917 high to 890ish, not because of anything to do with FTC. VMW and AVGO stock are tied due to the merger conversion agreement and go in tandem with each other.
BCOM does not do courtesies all will be gone
this is unlikely unless the merger agreement specifically calls for this concession. VMW has not made any knowledge of this public which leads me to believe no - this isn't part of the agreement. I would not be counting on this to plan ahead.
what if FTC blocks the deal? There is rumor FTC going to reject the deal. Last few days vmw stock going down for a reason.
