First, I’m more than likely with HR, so the koolaid tasted fine to me

Second, I probably don’t know sh-t about finding oil. Someone just thought I looked good on paper and I got the job of promoting propaganda

Third, I’m not smart enough to take a step back and recognize that a fresh set of eyes are immediately able to identify the shortcomings of the engineering department within two weeks

Fourth, Oxy engineers have and continue to pursue, spend and waste an astronomical amount of shareholder dollars on on projects that yield little to no incremental value in terms of oil production. Instead, they’ve been given the initiative (and money) to pursue projects like conformance in order to validate their jobs without adding any significant value

Damn shame

Well someone wrote a long rant to try and rein in the negative noise you were posting. Put it blunt Kemosabe, if you’re an “engineer” for Oxy then chances are you’re a family member of a legacy employee or you tripped up and couldn’t make it elsewhere. To many small E&P’s operating in Permian looking for actual talent that can deliver, seen to many d-mbasses with Oxy that can’t find a drop of oil unless they buy it from oreillys

Welcome to the Oxy world and way of doing things. You will rarely see “company approved” procedures written down unless it involves safety or government reporting. Sometimes being a little bit scattered allows for more creative thinking outside of the box.

First, your message appears to be somewhat unorganized, so it is difficult to determine what group you're referring to or if your comment is more generally directed.

Second, you state you've only been around for a couple of weeks at the time you posted this, so not sure what you've encountered at that time and what other experiences you've had subsequently.

Third, no idea on how much experience in the engineering field you've had - are you a greenhorn that could not find your a-s with both hands, or an experienced professional that has experience with other engineering organizations.

Fourth, no idea how self-confident you are, meaning you can handle ambiguity well or you like to hide behind structure where the process is more important that results (if the latter, you probably would do better in a government role or in a highly bureaucratic organization rather than in one that values innovation and flexibility).

Consequently, not sure how to even evaluate your comment or provide other feedback.

To which Engineering Department are you referring? Central engineering, production engineering, asset engineering, or GoM.

I feel for such a big company we are all kind of winging it. GOM just does whatever they feel like is one example.....

Any details to support that or should we just take your word on it?
