Thread regarding UPS layoffs

Opinions on todays UPS tentative agreement? Will they still strike? Found on teamster.org

High percent of employees are youth and not aware the past practice of voting no and negotiating for more. UPS brought an 11th hour offer so in desperation a non-thinking quick vote can be had. Senior wisdom on UPS's part. Package is missing wages equal to union refinery workers, part time wage should be at 35.00 and not 21.00, bonus missing like all other essential workers got, no a/c retrofits on all pkg. cars only new ones after Jan 1. UPS matches 0 on 401k. Score is mediocre.

look for other employment that does not use bonuses for pay. honesty matters.

Patterns of buying poor quality truck parts over and over creates a nightmare for risk management and hard to defend if any accidents occur. Always better to manage large fleets with the best parts available for safety and longevity without truck breakdowns. Not to mention if vehicle is down, driver hours could be cut. Doubtful any top mgmt. is aware of the bonus trick to meet numbers that some bottom mgmt. may use. Needs improvement.

The way UPS wastes money none of it matters. Example: Management meets required numbers in order to be paid bonuses/stock options by buying cheap rebuilt engines and trannys for trucks that come from Reviva (some locations). These literally are such poor quality it is normal for 3 to 4 to have to be reinstalled before a good one will even run. Some make it out the door and last 30 days and end up stuck and have to be hauled back by wrecker. Wrecker $1.000. Mechanic 20hr install. 15 hr remove each.2 drivers to bring another truck to put boxes in a running truck. Crate poor eng./tr---y and return shipping. New fluids now unusable . Higher insurance due to liability risk. Cheap parts cause huge revenue losses but pay management well.

Does not meet last 3 years horrible inflation or allow sufficient amount of essential workers compensation. Gets a No on voting due to nothing more ahead than what you would normally get , minus some advance on part-timers.

no trucks will be retro fitted with air conditioning, only if a new truck is ordered. most drivers will never see a/c in their lifetime.

all trucks need to be sent to the dealership to install a/c today. trucks are set up to easily receive it. takes about 1to 1 1/2 hours to install . give drivers some cool.

refinery union neighbor makes $54.19 hr. all bennies paid. the ups drivers stay about $10.00 hr. behind. non union refinery workers get peanuts and pay a lot for bennies because they will not stand up for their own rights.
doubt any layoffs if teamster contract slides thru unless economy dives.

Strike? Teamster Pres. in beginning said strike if no signed contract by Aug. 1. Then backtracked and said no strike if a tentative contract is in works and takes 3-4 wks. to ratify. Shows weakness and U.P.S. jumped on it and stalled negotiations till last minute. Pres. should have stood firm to his words. Now whole thing is vulnerable to weakest link, which is the unexperienced junior union membership who could settle quick out of fear.

Sad no compensation/bonus for U.P.S. essential workers like other businesses gave to their employees. The money was freely given from gov. to U.P.S. but they choose to give it to management and stock holders. Employees will always feel cheated and the company will have a hard time getting 100% out of workers now.
