Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

When will HD unit will be spun off?

If we are merging with kioxia, how is that I don't hear anything about HD unit spun off. Can we do in 2 -4 weeks time frame?

disengaging from flash is not the end of the hard work that's ahead to size the biz

The correct answer is -- layoff WD by leaving. I did several months ago. I got tired of the constant layoffs and dramas. I'm much happier now working from home for another company.

I meant to put this example in my previous post.

When IBM sold HDD to Hitachi part of the deal was tailgating IBM kept the Mainz plant. And I think a plant in Hungary. Mainz was a wafer fab (akin to great oaks) and Hungary was slider fab.

Hitachi already had Odawara (wafer fab) so with Great Oaks (Cottle Road then) they would have 3 fabs. Mainz was smaller and the main development was at GO. Layoffs are expensive in Germany. So Hitachi declined to take that on.

IBM had considered spinning HDD’s off before the sale. Doing so would have made the business less attractive to Hitachi.

The partner in a merger or sale will want to have input.

It will come after the deal goes through or falls apart.

One doesn’t make big unilateral moves while negotiating how to run a new company. Kioxia may want a say in how the split happens. They have to decide on how to allocate debt, assets (like the land at great oaks, intellectual property, etc.)

There are at least three entities that want to have input in how a split would happen. WD, Kioxia and the investors that put $1B into WD last year.

To do a simple and inaccurate analogy: imagine before you got married that your fiancée decided to sell a house without consulting you. And at a price you really disagreed with.

I thought that SanDisk is supposed to be split off and not the HDD division. So whatever happens HDD= WD
