So myself and several peers recently received our PDS feedback, outcomes all positive but we all heard one thing that kept us from top categories. Apparently we need to lead something in a ERG. I’m pretty certain we’ve been told business results matter and we all were told we had fantastic results and behaviors. So nice to have the rug pulled out from under you with a new performance metric no one told you about. Last I checked, these ERGs aren’t keeping people from quitting or delivering $ to the shareholders. In fact, a recent resignation in the area was an ERG leader. Do they play the same games at other sites? Can’t wait for the clown show of BRCX integration.

@1sia - you DO know that being a member of an ERG is open to anyone, right? You don’t need to be Black, Asian, Latino/a, Lgbtq, a Veteran… the groups are not exclusionary. If you actually asked instead of glorying in your you-ness, you’d know that. You say grow a pair - I say grow a brain.
At least that one DH that can debate with themselves is leaving.
Do ERGs exist outside the US?
And yet there’s a push to move ERG’s to a global model instead of regional.
Getting her money for nothing and the PIPs are free
Remember this. You will never be criticized by someone doing more than you, only those that are doing less as is the case here. Counting beans and playing politics isn’t working.
From an employee POV, the site is plagued with LTA SLS that needs ti be addressed.
Outsiders or you? Gaslight much?
Did anyone else attend the projects training today? Thoughts?
@4oyk Still trying to figure out what makes you so certain that you know who’s posting here.
From the outsiders POV, anyone using terms like “dragon lady” is likely a problem in the their workplace.
@4oyk is one of those you refer to SP Group?
https://www.thelayoff.com/p/@1vwh+1nIAPSoT and the reposter hit the mail on the head. Take the advice or leave it. If you leave it, don’t be buthurt when you rank low
@1vwh I actually thought this was good advice.
Leave it to EM employees to downvote someone who actually explains how to game the system.
EM employees, especially the ones who have aged/retired in place, don’t actually want success or growth; they want to wallow in their own mediocrity after kicking out the ladder to prevent any competition rising from the bottom to displace them.
That’s why the site in the shape it’s in. Poor decisions by upper management leading to poor management in sls positions which trickles down. Incompetence breeds incompetence. Hard working, competent loyal employees see this and leave if they can.
After multiple decades of experience in this complex, I can say it's sickening to see the people they actually rank high. You're actually still young enough that you think it's performance based. It's not. Next year they will move the goal post and give you some other fabricated reason, the following one a new one. Things they've never brought up. Just remeber kiss azzing gets you everywhere. Working hard doesn't.
@1vwh+1nIAPSoT Sounds like you have practiced the managers script a little to much!
Maybe your supervisor is telling you that you didn’t have any ‘above and beyond’ activities that allowed you to compete with peers who did. I doubt it needs to be ERG; that is likely just a suggestion.
Think of Assessments like college applications. To be a top performer you need stellar performance in your base job PLUS need to demonstrate you are doing even more. (Ie-college equivalent of extracurriculars.)
For younger folks: ERGs and United Way are easy ways to do this….but you could be an ergo contact, take on a special project, etc.
As you get further along in the company, it is easier to find these ‘extracurriculars’ within the scope of the job….or through mentoring.
If your assessment is adequate, you can also ask yourself whether you really want to compete for that top tier at the expense of more work (because you cannot let your base job slip either.) You can always dial-up the extracurriculars later, when you find something you click with.
ERG's are a violation of law period! They introduce a form of harassment in the workplace and make it a hostile environment to all. Reason being is each one is representative of a group that is identifying by a specific criteria that in itself is discriminatory against all others. Special groups (not special if all humans are human) that are not inclusive of all employees are therefore hostile, exclusionary and discriminating against ALL OTHERS! This type of hostile designation is federally illegal in your place of work. IT IS POSTED - JUST READ IT! People don't educate themselves to understand existing rights and laws. Nor do they want to speak up and make certain their rights are not violated or the laws enforced. Speak up! Fight it in your work environment! You decide what is harassment to you in the workplace, you decide when this is being leveraged against you, you decide if you feel like this is attacking you! It does not belong in our place of work at all! Speak up! Class action! Do something! Grow some!
While this may be true, I think the more likely answer is that you didn’t get the top slots and so they manufactured a reason why not. You can lead a great effort in an ERG and next year they will tell you that was great but you didn’t get the slot this year because of X.
For years I took careful notes of the things they said kept me from the top spots and would make a concerted effort to address it and discuss it during my 1:1 to track progress. The next year we all agreed that I had improved in those areas but they would give me other reasons why I didn’t get the top spot.
I am slower than most because it took me a while to realize that I was never going to get one of the top spots. It is liberating to understand that.
@brn+1nIAPSoT Technical
Working on erg only gets you kudos if you are a white able male heteros-xual. If you are a disabled non white women, it’s a negative as courage of conviction isn’t valued in the organisation although they like you to think it is
What section are you in? I have a pretty good feeling I know. Just want to make sure
