Thread regarding Dish Network layoffs

You know who should be fired at Dish?

How long is incompetent CISO Artie Wilkowsky going to keep his job, his raises and bonuses? Most of the lawsuits allege his cybersecurity program not only was grossly negligent and incompetent, but that it also lied about the horrible state of security in public filings.

That's what's alleged and the trials will drag out evidence (unless Dish quietly folds as is quite likely, paying off the class action attorneys while giving nothing to actual victims).

Artie had a career of deception, knifing colleagues and blaming them for his failures. He was good at getting people more competent than him fired so he'd be the one left to get the raise and promotion. Reality finally caught up with him.

If I were the CEO, Artie would be the first one I'd kick out the door.

To be fair, employee phishing tests are a common practice, and not a bad one. It's about training employees to recognize and report them, not tricking them and firing them as a result.

But that's about the only counterpoint I have for everything you said. I agree with the rest. Artie is a ja----s, and so is Charlie. The most nervous I've ever been was when I was gathering evidence after a hack (note: I'm not with the security team, just a random sys admin who had access to the affected systems), and Artie asked me directly what was taking so long. Like sorry bro, its 1am and I have century link at home. Uploading a dozen vmdks between 45 and 60 GB is gonna take a while. You want it faster, maybe fix the fu----g network so the security team can actually access the assets they're supposed to be protecting.

I cannot agree more regarding CISO's incompetency. To put it in a more simpler term, he lacks of proper technical training for his responsibilities (from his resume on Linkin). Furthermore, he is probably below average on commonsense and critical thinking from reading what he wrote and listening what he talked. However, he is quite good in brown-nosing and pretending he know stuffs to those who are unaware of the subjects. He put up a lot of shows to demonstrate that he is tough on cyber-security. Company e-mail is his tool for his self-promotion. I am not in IT, but seeing tons of e-mail from him over the years. He frequently sent out fake phishing e-mails to all Dish employees to see whether or not anyone click on it. To average people, he seems to care and does a good job. For those who can read him, they are laughing.

When I heard about the hack, he was the first one I thought of. The chairman is a smart man, but he is cheap and selfish. He got what he paid for, and of course he have to live with it.
