Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

This will be painful

No matter what you hear, expect the merger to be painful for the employees of both companies. There will always be redundant roles and mandatory cost cuts that will result in major layoffs. Both companies will suffer for it, that’s for sure. Make sure you're prepared for what's to come.

“ . I assure you that the pain will mainly be felt by non-Japanese employees”

Exact opposite of what happened with the Hitachi buyout of IBM HDD business.

Odawara is closed and a lot of good people there are working elsewhere.

@uae...Spot on. Most Sandisk Milpitas engineers will be gone one way or another in the next 12 months. Kioxia management and the investors will be left holding a dilapidated office and a bag of worthless patents

I've been a non-Japanese employee of a few Japanese companies. I assure you that the pain will mainly be felt by non-Japanese employees. Between nationalism and Japanese labor law, it will cost too much money to dismiss employees in Japan.
