This will be my final post for today. I hope you are all enjoying my contributions this morning! There's something in the "rented lifestyle" industry called, "Subscription fatigue".
Forbes published an excellent article on this called, "The Great Unsubscribe".
https://www.forbes.com/sites/pamdanziger/2022/05/10/as-retail-opens-up-and-inflation-closes-in-consumer-subscription-fatigue-is-on-the-rise/?sh=3c279f452ede
Government stimulus (which brought egg prices from $69 cents to $4.00) made low-end consumers feel wealthy so they started to order expensive food deliveries and subscribed to all kinds of things like Peleton exercise apps, movie/music services, you name it. But now that inflation has taken hold and consumer debt is at record levels, the corporations are worried about a "subscription apocalypse".
"There are three basic types of subscription business models: replenishment, curation and access. Each of them has inherent weaknesses as money grows tight. And with consumers returning to work and able to get back to doing all the things they love to do, the convenience embedded in some of the subscription models is not so compelling."

Bonus: The lower-middle class, emboldened by free government stimmy checks felt for some reason that the free money would never end. Many used their stimmy checks to put a down payment on a luxury car. Now there's a huge increase in car repossessions. Ask yourself how a flood of used cars less than 3 years old will do to new car sales. Read more:

I remember during onboard at the RenCen we were shown the On Star area. They asked who had ever pressed the On Star button. Nobody said anything and the only thought that came to mind was the one time I pressed the button. It was when I was changing the mirror so I wasn't blinded by the headlight behind me and the button was right where I braced to pull the tab. I blurted out, "one time by accident." It was awkward.
I drive a Dodge Stratus!
That "loyalty" was forced, not because we thought we made the best product.
Non-GM cars were often vandalized in the parking lots at the plants, and of course there are the "GM only" parking areas.
What ever happened to making the best products at a fair price that everyone WANTED to buy, employee or not?
The world has changed if GM Employees are not exclusively buying GM vehicles. Back in the day, the loyalty to buy company product only was intense.
Need engineering at these auto companies to start selling defeat devices on the internet, like they did for the diesel DEF Fluid and Calibrations, making certain that the wording states for testing purposes only to avoid lawsuits.
When this pushes the customers to foreign brand names, I surely hope we don't have to listen to folks saying we are not patriotic when these auto companies have alliances with these same companies.
I used to drive GM vehicles all the time, but with the issues on my last two GM vehicles, I will never purchase another GM again. I also destroyed my GM card and have a Cabela's card where I can apply my points to better use.
Lots of competition out there for other employers as well that know how to treat their employees, this place isn't one of them !
Put enough cash on the hood, they'll sell it.
I wonder... what percentage of the electric car market demographic owns an iPhone. I suspect, a majority. I know that GM has access to the marketing data.
Beyond that, the greed of GM is shortsighted. They are going to trade subscription fees and a data collecting/sharing opportunity with Google for very large drop in sales. The elimination of CarPlay will be a deal-breaker for many.
The arrogance of the old GM "we build it, you WILL buy it" never went away.
This sc--w-up will be written into business text books as a great business case.
For many, the range, safety, cost, appearance, comfort etc. is less important than integration with their smart phone. Even poor people on SNAP benefits have the latest IOS device. They are addicted. Downplaying this is a VERY BIG mistake.
Doesn't BMW charge you a monthly fee if you want the seat warmer in your car to work?
