That might not be him in the comments - could be someone trolling.
Why would someone in senior leadership even bother to follow up on their op ed, or take the time to post a bunch of comments under it.

It was between him or Barra for CEO, but after the Wagner failure that resulted in bankruptcy, they went with Barra to soften the blow. They needed a female face to show compassion and absorb the heat of the fallout.

That being said- to Mark and and Mary- when you visit the Design building at WTC, show up unannounced. Wander around beyond the route that was preplanned. You will be surprised to find reality- not areas freshly painted and scrubbed just for you.

Not sure who you are or where you work. I don't "visit" Design. I work there. I walk studios daily. I see everything good and in need of something. I am never surprised as a result.

You know me. If you don’t see the daily dysfunction, waste, and incompetence, you need to retire. You claim to encourage people to speak up, but everyone knows that only gets one blackballed. Take a stroll through every other building on campus, you will learn a lot.

I actually walk each area. Regularly. If you don't want to be there, I wish you well elsewhere. No one is forcing you to work here. Just be happy in whatever you do. Dysfunction you describe is not factual. Nor is the waste. Nor is "blackballing". What is surprising is that you hide behind this anonymous name, and do not speak to me personally or email me.

As an employee (now retired), during recent years, I don't agree with the impression which you project. There hasn't been a "standard" response and GM is certainly conscious of making "mistakes" and needing to deal with unanticipated outside forces. This hasn't been used or allowed as an excuse to not meet overall goals. Market share (which you're using as an off-topic poke) has nevertheless been reasonably steady, particularly with a recent successful focus on the most profitable vehicles when chips were limited. It wasn't easy meeting goals. It's not supposed to be. The human aspect . . . treating employees decently, has not been lost but I'm sure there are bad spots to work. There are many, many fewer bad bosses in this very large company. I did and do see inconsistencies but, overall, GM continues to be much more than a cut above other places to work. No George Costanza's allowed.
