Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Layoffs - A Silver Lining

I will share my story, in hopes that it will encourage or help at least 1 person.

In December I was impacted by the layoffs, however I was on medical leave so I wasn't actually let go until I came back.

I had a surgery right before the layoff, this didn't stop my leadership from calling me and asking if I could meet with HR in person 2 days after my surgery I refused to come in cause I had several stitches so they setup a zoom call the next day.

The first thing that this evil person from my leadership did was tell me that part of the reason I was being laid off was due to performance. Interesting because

  1. This was a layoff explained as a structural change not a termination
  2. They never put me on a PIP (performance improvement plan), wrote me up, or anything of that sort. In fact, people that have actually worked side by side with me over the decades know that I am a hard worker and put my blood, sweat and tears into PepsiCo. HR, what a joke, they let my mgmt kick me while I was already down and said nothing.

So when this person told me I was not performing, it left me with the conclusion that me being out on medical disability was equal to performances issues.

Honestly what kind of person would, destroy another person's career and impact not only the employee but their whole family.

Fast forward to today, I got a better job, doing what I want to do. While it is extremely busy, the people appreciate and value me as an employee. Something that was missing in my life the last several years at PepsiCo.

Today I am not really mad at PepsiCo, I am actually mad at myself. I spent half my life devoted to PepsiCo only for leadership to sp-t on my while I went out the door.

For those that have been at PepsiCo for less than 10 years; get out while you are still young. There are a ton of jobs out there that are not driven by the almighty dollar. I promise you in 2 years they will cut even more people cause this is what they have done since they early 2000's. You will not have job security ever, cause as I seen in my case it only takes 1 person to not like you and kick you out.

The truth of the matter is this person did me a favor cause if I was still with PepsiCo I would be over worked, under paid and appreciated. They forced me to leave and that in itself is the silver lining.

PepsiCo was great until the egocentric and self-centered female CEO came to totally change the caring for the employee culture and we all became a commodity, let’s don’t forget - while creating her empire overseas ..

I was told my job was going to GBS in India 2 years ago, at the time after 27 years with the company I was devistated. Fast forward to present time and I am happier, mentally healthier and absolutely love my new job. I kick myself all the time that I didn't leave PepsiCo much earlier in my career and especially when I saw things take a turn into the toxic mess it is today. For anyone doubting that there is life after PepsiCo take it from me there is and it is so much better. I am making $25,000 more a year, I have better benefits and my work environment is amazing. Get out while you can on your own terms.

Can relate to this. He-l hole that Indra and her cronies created to empower their home country.

For what ever health left best to enjoy what is left of it. They still want to drain that like Dracula.

Toxic is understatement.

PepsiCo was awesome from 1999 to about 2004, then the big change happen. They went from supporting growth and employees excited about having a career to taking away their stock options and laying off every 2 years to make 1st quarter numbers. Simon Sinek outlines what happens to a company when this happens. You turn into an employee that tries to stay under the radar instead of offering ways to help the company make profit.

Left 1.5 years ago and am have been sooo much better off. I sometimes think how much more I'd be making now and how much of my sanity and dignity I wouldn't have had to reclaim (because I would've kept it!) if I left before the 2 yr mark, enough time to see what a truly disgusting place it is to work for.

Still in touch with someone that was at the same location I was and it seems it's still just as toxic, if not more, as it always was. Will wonder how these people will feel 40 years down the line after they've dedicated 60 hrs/wk during the young adult lives to a place that curates twisted, condescending, cookie cutter caricature of a corporate tool. If they can churn out 10% of their recruits into this amd future directors and VPs, then the recipe is fairly successful right?

God bless those that still sane and dignified working for PepsiCo and Frito-Lay. I wish them the best.

For the rest of them, luck and karma will battle it out. Though of course their finances from 20 yrs as an L10+ will protect them from any downfalls and reinforce their belief that the culture they created was great.

There's more to life than chips and soda...and thank God.

That’s quite a read - suffice to say that OP is leaving more than few details out of the story…

It is a vile company. I’m about to turn 63 and can take early social security. Not what I’d prefer to do but Ramon and his band of incompetents have created such a toxic work, stressful and cut throat environment (you know - the “PepsiCo Way”) I want to enjoy my retirement while I still have some semblance of physical and mental health.

I am happy you found something better. 3 years ago I was told my job is going away. It is, I am now training management how to do my job. I am hanging around in hopes I can get the package they promised. Until then I sit at home working and not really caring if things get done.
