Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Did we really put a timing belt in the oil... wtf 1L 3Cyl

1L 3 cyl engine...

The low-friction timing belt-in-oil drive with dynamic tensioner provide quieter and more efficient running (about 20%) with the reliability of a chain. The timing belt warranty is 10 years or 120,000 miles (200,000 km). The 1.0l EcoBoost is equipped with Ti-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing).

What do you think it costs to replace it.

The problem with this design is that it is mandatory to fill in only approve engine oil unless you want your belt to dissolve slowly and clog the lubrication system. Videos of such dramatic cases can be found on YouTube where they tear down affected engines while on camera. Since a buyer of a used Ford car cannot be sure about the oil which his predecessors had filled in, there is a certain risk around purchasing used models with Fox engines.

It cost $2,000 to replace the timing chain on my F150. Luckily, I purchased an extended warranty.

"with the reliability of a chain" <-- now there's a blatant lie

forecast: gonna be a replay of the plastic intake manifold debacle on the modular v8 combined w/ the in-engine waterpump situation. wow. 2x the fun.

as scotty kilmer would say: why did they do it? because it's CHEAPER! (insert horse laugh gif)

Another cost save that will result in customers funding the failure or a future recall.
