Thread regarding 3M layoffs

3M HR needs to stand up and stand tall for things to turn around.

Interesting to see there hasn’t been any discussion/posting about TTS Organization. Well, it is no better than the EO MFG/SC or any other functions. You will have to be a kiss as… to survive or be a br…. nose. Efficient and knowledgeable people like Chris Howe are kicked out because he stood up against what he believed in and what is right.

One example…
Was in a meeting with the one who replaced Chris Howe recently. She has been with 3M for 11 years and moved from a supervisor to a VP. “Clue less and Stupid”….That is the reaction I got from all the team leaders who have met with her after Chris Howe’s departure. Did some digging myself, found out She was on the underperform list at Thompson Reuters. She left TR because she couldn’t survive efficient managers.

These are the kind of people from outside coming into 3M and running it to the ground. 3M HR has to stand up and tall as well, if things have to change.

TTS is just another name for IS&DP back in the day. Hasn't changed much. It's more about who you know, not what the employee knows. Being dedicated and knowledgeable can actually work against you unless you are working under the right leadership. 3M as we knew it is long gone and so goes it's values.

I invite u to view the last hr townhall… utter rubbish from that leadership team. And the layers below it are just more garbage. Stand up and stand tall?? Joke! More like a circus of curiosities.

Where is/was the ROI from that Polaris project? Should be plenty of $$$ to fund projects based on the significant savings and growth generated by Polaris alone year over year. What is the problem? Stop complaining, as leadership threw out the McKnight principles and have been doing a bang up job on strategy for well over a decade ago now.

All leaders have areas they need to improve, including CH. However the new leaders that Mark Murphy (CIDO) has brought in are all poor replacement’s for their predecessors. Applications, Infrastructure, and Security all have bottom tier leaders now.

The common misconception about HR is that they are “on your side”. HR doesn’t work for you. HR works for 3M. All they care about is protecting 3M and doing what’s asked of them. Under-performers or over-performers it doesn't matter. If someone wants to hire or promote someone they just do the paper work. There is nothing for them to standup for other than making sure 3M is legally cover it’s a**.

CH was not good with his budget, although the IT budget was always underfunded. Let’s not forget there are DEI boxes to check…

3m is well known for hiring unfit incompetent employees or moving them up the chain. Peter principle is strong within.

3M HR has a very short list of priorities. Those priorities are, in order:

  1. Prevent as many lawsuits against 3M as possible.
  2. Comply with legal regulations as cheaply as possible.
  3. Make sure there are the bare minimum number of employees present needed to keep the lights on.

HR's job isn't to stand up. Their job is to say 'how high?' when senior leadership asks them to jump. Anyone expecting courage or innovation from HR is looking at the wrong function.
