RTO is a joke

It's just a ploy by middle management to try and prove their questionable / limited value. WFH worked just fine during the pandemic and showed that all this middle management really added little to zero value, but, the mobile technology worked great. After all, why was all this mobile technology developed ? so we can continue working in an antiquated 1920s model ? It's a new world, this is 2023, not 1923. Why is management that is always harping about the need to change, the need to do things differently, the need to think outside the box etc etc, so against and threatened by the WFH change ? But, this is the same "open minded" management that willingly and openly embraces social change with no hesitation ? With RTO you get less than motivated employees sitting in cubes after an aggravating commute, that pollutes the environment, playing on their phones, fa----g into their seat cushions all day and watching the clock. Productive people will be productive no matter where they work. The WFH Genie has been let out of the bottle and there is no putting it back.

I get absolutely nothing done while I'm in the office.
We didn't have back-to-back meetings every day before the flu scare. And beyond that, my workload more than doubled.
Before the Fauci Flu, I could get a lot of work done between meetings.
Now when I'm in the office, the noise is too big of a distraction when I do have time to work, and difficult to concentrate in when I'm in a meeting. It's a disaster TBH.
On my WFH days, I struggle to catch up. In the end, I'm far less productive and TBH, a little fatigued. Fatigue makes me not want to do anything FWIW.
Seeing how we are headed into a financial collapse, I have to remind myself that none of these things really matter. These are probably "the good days" that we will all look back on fondly.

Employers pay employees just enough not to quit, and employees work just hard enough not to get fired. The odd exception to this was WFH, where people actually put in more time from the comfort of their own desk.

All management will do is self sabotage their results with RTO. The proof will be in the results, and employees will despise, the return. Employees don't even need to work hard enough to keep their job these days, because every business still can't find people with heartbeats - and I don't mean the enlarged heart kind.

Push the return to office bullsh*t, and we'll find a way to sever the commute time and more, from productive corporate results.

Where I;m at (non GM) we started a hybrid work schedule because some higher ups where whining to the ceo that since THEY had to still be in the office, then why can't everyone else be there as well?

Who's shilling RTO? People are being pragmatic. The writing is on the wall and your "flexibility" is laughable at the first sign of a flat/negative quarter. Many of us have seen this movie before. If you think conditions are bad now, you haven't seen anything. WFH will be fantasy-land very soon. Research auto loan defaults, auto repossessions, bankruptcy rates, consumer debt, etc. If it doesn't change your perspective, IDK what to say. Good luck? Bless your heart?

We've beat this to death and apparently you haven't been comprehending the trend.
The WFH Genie was beaten, rolled up and put back in the bottle wet.
Corporations around the country are mandating a return to the office.
GM has already done it, they just haven't enforced it yet. But that will change during your quarterly review. You know what they say? FAFO
Good news though: I hear they are hiring at McDonalds for $20/hour.
