Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

chance to get promotion approved

hi what is the chance to get promotion as proposed by supervisor and supported by PDR approved this year? seems smaller than last year as oil price is lower, thoughts?

OP, if you have to ask questions like this, it's clear you don't know how the system works.

Here's the thing about 'promotions' those of us who have been around a long time know. Your entire Chevron career fits into a formula determined by your degree, starting PSG (and salary), country you work in, and 'intangibles' such as did you go to a 'favored' school, are you a diversity candidate, are you a relative of a current Chevron GM or higher, etc. All of this was settled either the day you started work of within your first couple years. After that, it doesn't matter if you're average or a super-star performer, you adhere to the formula. In the meantime, your manager, PDR, or whoever will 'stall' you with all kinds of promises. Those fed up with such lies eventually quit.

The "Higher Returns" part of "Higher Returns Lower Carbon" means no promotions. Ever.

It depends a lot on your PSG. Easier to get promoted at lower PSG levels. In IT Engineering it will be tough as my supervisor told me that this year there will be less promotions than last year. Getting 'Exceeds Expectations' will be tough this year as they are forcing supervisors not to give EE, which will negatively impact the promotions in future. The entire process is not transparent at all so I think it also depends on how well connected are you with leaders in your organization rather how qualified you are.

The boss and pdr will tell you anything you want to hear to keep you around. It is all BS until it happens. I was told that I was due dozens of times. The company is empty promises.

Oil price has nothing to do with promotions. If you are one of the chosen ones or meet the right diversity criteria you will get your promotion...if you don't get the promotion might be a hint that your not going anywhere within Chevron
