belk was facing a huge return rate after the pandemic. Belk adjusted its return policy to 30 days which was supposed to help with lowering the rate of returns, but now customers are returning more frequently in a short time frame so the returns have accelerated exponentially. Some belk stores are doing more in returns than sales.

Belk attracts customers who wear and return merchandise and who overspend and have to return because they can’t pay for it. Until Belk attracts a new customer base, returns will continue to be a problem.
