Curious if anyone has either 1) been laid off or 2) voluntarily left the company while 3M was paying their MBA (or other graduate degree) tuition. Did they make you pay a portion back? How did they handle it if you were mid-degree and you were laid off?

My tuition reimbursement in 2015 had to be declared as income and I had to pay taxes on the 35k. What a surprise that was. So they may not hunt you down for the money. Just report it as income to the IRS.
I'm surprised there are enough lawyers at 3M to go after tuition reimbursement clawbacks. Are they not all tied up already with earplugs and PFAS? And realistically how much money is it even worth?
I just left the company and received tuition reimbursement. Sometimes they will reach out to you other times they will drop it.
I talked to several people who left and owed money. They said you receive a letter in the mail giving you two years to pay it back.
Another piece of data. My mba guidance counselor said she has seen hundreds of students leave their company that “owed money”. None were force to pay it back.
The legal cost for the company to send you to collections isnt worth it depending on how much you owe.
Many of them didn’t pay it back. The only catch was you could no longer work at 3M since you are not in good standing. Not the end of the world the rate 3M is going.
My piece of mind getting out of 3M has been glorious. Best decision ever.
What’s sad is if you were approved for MBA / Tuition repayment, you were most likely coded a high performer…
One more reason 3m has completely lost its way ethically, morally, and most certainly business-wise.
Depends on the situation, I’ve seen managers try to enforce the repayment and HR / Legal decline to pursue it
If you’re laid off tuition reimbursements received so far do not need to be paid back. If you leave on your own accord the company may require repayment of any reimbursements made in the past 3 years) based on your signed tuition reimbursement agreement).
Honestly, the repayment really
