The management situation is an absolute mess

After going through brutal layoffs and witnessing a steady loss of top-notch talent, what we're left with is nothing short of a catastrophe. Let's face it, the current management situation is an absolute mess. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that we're dealing with the absolute worst of the worst. We've reached the bottom of the barrel and now we're scraping up whatever sorry excuse for a manager we can find. It's a miracle the company is still standing with incompetence running rampant among the higher-ups.

  • "serving our patients" --- but you've probably never actually been in a hospital
  • "remove obstacles" --- Add Obstacles, like more sign-offs
  • "face challenges" --- blame subordinates for issues
  • AOP - excuse for any stupid decision I make

MDT needs to go back to a divisional model. The Geoff Martha operating unit model destroyed collaboration. OU have to pay each other for every little thing.

Oh and now they have sent redeployment emails to those impacted asking them to consider open roles. Why didn’t they do that before the RIF? It looks like their little accounting trick backfired as they assumed people would be lining up to come back. No chance.

I was hoping that the reorg would bring a decent leadership change at the director level, but it’s incredible on how they picked absolutely the worst folks. No product release experience. No product development experience, no product sales experience. Just aop jockeys and smooth talkers.

Just wait until people receive their MIP. You will see more people leaving. Also, don't fall into the news media trap that people are getting lazy and don't want to work anymore. Maybe people like Medtronic employees are sick and tired of being asked to do more work with less resources.

I resigned last week, and I know several co-workers are doing the same. We are all early to mid-career people with 3-10 years of experience. It is clear that there is little to gain from a deteriorating organization with shrinking pipelines.

I got four offers in two months and have picked the one that fits my interest. I like Medtronic and enjoy working here. Hope to return when things get better.

It sounds like a lot of people are also resigning, but hard to tell from just these posts. Are people seeing increased resignations in their groups as well? When I submitted my 2 week notice my manager took it well but seemed emotionless. I took it as them being unhappy and stressed over all the RIFs.

not to mention huge span of control problems, managers having their direct report number double or more with consolidation after managers retired or got taken out by the RIF. thats not going to work out well.
