Thread regarding Nordstrom layoffs

Has Nordstrom become a Day 2 company?

Perhaps. It is looking more and more like a Day 2 company. The next two years will tell the tale of the tape.

He!! yes it’s a Day 2 company. It turned the corner in the late 90s and has been on the decline ever since. Mistake after mistake by incompetent leaders cost billions. Trunk Club,
Puerto Rico, Peapod, Haute Look, Façonnable, timidly embracing online shopping in the late 90s and the list goes on and on. Billions spent on stock buybacks that has not done a thing to boost the stock price but did payoff handsomely for overpaid executives. They do on occasion get rid of the executives at VP or higher levels but still allow some who have cost the company dearly to remain. No one there knows how to read the tea leaves and that is the problem with mediocre talent. They will survive a few more decades just because the competition is even more incompetent.

There is certainly a stagnation and a painful decline going on however it will be a decade or two before the patient flatlines. The vultures are circling for sure however only a few foolish buzzards are moving in prematurely.

OK, I see what Bezos is getting at there, kinda channeling Andy Grove, “Only the Paranoid Survive”, sure. But actually to run like that, day in day out, starts to sound like a cult. Certainly a people-eating machine, maybe that’s what Jeff wants to build, rather spend time at the office instead of with his ugly used roastie girlfriend. Wife? Tfic.
