@xuj+1mqlMK5G What makes you think you are ever safe? There have been no less than 7 layoffs during the last 5 years. Executive management has not altered its strategy or course over the last 5 years and the company's performance has reflected that poor strategy. I get it, 3M used to be a place where you could work for 30 years and retire. It is no longer that company. Currently, there is minimal organic growth (sales/revenues increases), extremely stubborn headwinds (increase in costs - lawsuits), and executive management that is ill-equipped to manage both ends of the spectrum.

Figure it out. Either sink with the Titanic or push yourself out of your comfort zone and find a new career to support yourself and family. Sitting on the sidelines watching Bozo and Cookie slap each other on the backside with white towels in the locker room is not going to change your fate.

I am so scared. I am a single mom with young kids and on long term disability at 3M. I thought I was safe but because I work in another state (but not too far from MN) I realize my job is still at risk with this latest news.

Well, nothing is transparent. Different outlets saying different things about the 1,100 and where they come from. None have mentioned the GSC. At least one said in addition to 6K. Some sources say 500 more than planned Or initially communicated.

The notice was only filed yesterday. It starts a 60 day clock on Warn Act. Many actions were long complete (last week) based on reports here before that notice was filed yesterday.

What are the conditions in which the warm notice is necessary?

Obviously there have been a steady stream of impacts but haven’t noticed warn notifications for those.

Why would the warm notice go to Maplewood and St. Paul leaders if the additional were remote employees not from the state?

Not sure we will ever get a clear answer.

It's not fear that they are moving 1,000 jobs to GSC in Costa Rica to replace Maplewood cuts. Those poor drones will get bombarded with more work than they can possibly do. Honestly they have idea of tge impact some of the cuts that have already impacted lines down and customers. Pete G is in way over his head, and creating even more problems. That is fact not fear.

"A spokesperson told us Tuesday the 1,100 employees include the 600 previously mentioned, with the additional 500 identified as remote workers who work for the Minnesota headquarters but are not physically based in the state."

If you read the article they are not saying is 1100 more people. They are only stating is 1100 from HQ. These are counted in the 6000 number. Most likely the ones who were notified Thursday, Friday and today are officially terminated in June. Please stop spreading fear.

I think this amount is NOT included in the 6k due to the date listed and these are the jobs going to the GSC. Those new hires have to be trained … awful

Sad and not surprising that we are not finding out about this internally at all- but only through the news articles posted about it. Here I was thinking everyone who wasn’t notified last week was safe, until at least the q2 earnings, since thats what management told us. Do better to your employees 3M!

They could save a lot of money by getting rid of over lap in Executive ranks. That and stop spending 10 million on Mike's consultant friends and the 20 million plus spend on Kearny. Meanwhile in the plants our Pet's Petey's "heads are falling off", with leaks and bricks and concrete falling apart which is a metaphor. I can think of at least two highly unqualified executives who's salary's could be cut tomorrow and 3M would not miss a beat. They keep talking a good game, but running off Hammes isn't the only ready cost savings.

  1. .that's it? There has to be more waste there when one considers that the company is going to keep spinning off businesses and wants to make them attractive to potential buyers by slashing costs 2X more than the business can possibly handle.

Don't neg me for commenting this way. It's just what I'm seeing from Mike and monish on how they indiscriminately cut costs without any concern for the future. Like it or not, the stars are aligned for monish to be HCBG CEO. Mike to get 20 million to retire while keeping a seat on the board. Vale coming in and breaking up the rest. I don't like how any of this is happening but the paint is already starting to dry and it don't look good.

Maybe Vale is waiting to take over and then he will "impress" Wall Street by cutting another 1100 jobs. Cutting customer service, research, etc. Is the easiest way to make thing look good, at least for 12 months.

Ge-z, does someone have a voodoo doll shaped like the 3M logo and is poking pins into it daily?

Previously WARN notices haven't been filed for layoffs at headquarters because they have given the 14 day internal access plus the 45 days until the official termination date so they can bypass filing the WARN notice by giving employees these 60 days. With filing the notice now it could mean that when they begin this round on June 30, those laid off will probably be instantly cut off

Based on this being a new notice with a new timeframe to execute, articles are insinuating “in addition to” the previously announced 6k.

It looks like those who were given “all clear” from their leaders this week only had temporary stress relief.

Looks like it is in addition to the 6,000 global roles....Dates are also farther out than first wave of layoffs, so more are coming....

I believe this is within the 6000 not in addition.

I would read this notice as part of the 6,000, not in addition to.

Good to know the Center count now. Also they said no union staff were impacted, so plant engineering trades were mostly excluded from the cuts at the center.

Appears to be in addition per article on Patch.com

https://patch.com/minnesota/woodbury/amp/31356302/3m-plans-to-lay-off-1100-workers-from-maplewood-campus-notice

“The news comes a week after 3M announced it would eliminate 6,000 jobs globally as it looks to restructure amid slumping sales”
