Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

They should never be trusted

I remember how they lulled us into believing that the company was doing well and that there would be no layoffs. Giving people a false sense of security and then suddenly cutting them is totally inhumane. The lesson to be learned from everything is that you should never trust them and that you should always have option B.

It doesn't matter who was in president when GM was bailed out. GM used the threat of massive economic damage to extort billions of dollars of taxpayer money out of the government. They did the same thing in Korea.

GM said, "give me the money or everybody's fired!"

The economy crashed in 2008.

Obama was left to deal with it when he took office in 2009.

There was nothing Obama did that differentiated himself from Bush despite the "Hope and Change" rhetoric. He continued the same failed policies and oversaw the worst financial crisis outside the Great Depression. Extended the wars, divided by race, kept Americans in a state of fear and demoralization. He even funded te------ts and propped up Arab Spring to destabilize North Africa. How did that end?
It actually sounds really familiar... and where are we headed now?
Of course most Americans are ignorant of all this. They keep voting for these people, hoping for more welfare, student loan payoffs, etc. The stimulus checks cheered on by so many have completely destabilized our spending power. Inflation is in many cases 100%, despite what the government reports. All of that free money (income redistribution schemes) ends up costing you so much; for many it costs them their marriages, jobs and homes. Here's to 2023 and to Brandon "finishing the job!"
Speaking of Brandon, TARP2 is a no-brainer. Banks are failing at a record pace. The first 3 banks that failed had more capital lost than all of 2008's failed banks combined. Bet you won't hear that on CNN. We'll see how many cars are sold when people can't get loans during a "credit crunch". If all this is making you uncomfortable, good. Take the red pill and escape the matrix.

TARP was passed under George W. Bush.

Obama didn't become President until January 20, 2009.

GM shouldn't even be in business. They should have been allowed to fold up in 2008. Obama should have been impeached and forcibly removed from office for giving billions of dollars to GM.

It's a transaction, nothing more and nothing less. You occupy a desk for a paycheck, and so long as paycheck is still good, you work to earn it. You carry your workload, you perform, but at the end of the day, it can be severed at any point in time.

Knowing this is part of the battle. Knowing that certain corporations are horrendous for layoffs is part of the plan. GM ranks high in intentional turnovers - intentionally. They aren't a great company to work for, and are only somewhat decent if direct hired. Contracts get the shaft, as they are usually toss away employees. I can say this as a two decade contract employee. All of them, GM or otherwise, are the same. When the job is done, you are done. When the bottom line starts to hurt, you are done. When you look at the badges wrong, you might be done. Second rate citizen.

You can't be loyal to a company.

You give them time and work, they give you money, and that's the whole relationship.

Not a family, nothing to go the extra mile for, because they won't do it for you.

Makes for a pretty un-dedicated workforce. One might say, such employees are there for the paycheck and nothing else. I don't know if there is a way to fix such a company when it's that broken. Perhaps better to start over. Maybe GM is yet another example of creative destruction at work. Too bad the destruction involves so many people!
