Could be. If you were a 3Mer for 20-30 years with solid network and there is luckily an opening in another department.
I knew there was a senior level technical person accepted a new role in another department when he was laid off.
Another example was to keep a 30+ years of experience 3Mer not leaving the company during lay-off, to create a role just for him/her.
But don't take for granted you can secure a spot before the time expired, better polish your resume and network outside immediately.

I highly doubt you can unless one of the jobs you perfectly qualify for that is already on Workday is not frozen and wants to hire you. For most people, that won't be the case and most of what is on Workday will be frozen or "soft frozen".

The general experience is that hiring is frozen for 60 days after restricting actions. That makes it difficult to find a new internal position.

Very rare, but it happens. If you worked for a boss years ago and had a good working relationship, that boss, if in a higher level job, might be able to bring you in and then fire someone else. It's a net zero sum game for sure.

I'd rather move along since 3M is going to be cutting more heads 3x per year for years to come.

Why would you not have any respect for yourself and what you bring to a company? There is life outside of 3M...trust me after years of thinking everything evolved around 3M...I have enough respect for myself and what I can offer to walk away before they could cut me.

The correct answer is anything and everything is possible.

Exceptions happen all the time, it just depends on how good you are in kissing the ar-e of your VP , SvP or higher ups.

Why would you want to stay? 3M = S&M

You can’t get rehired if you’re in Canada. You are just let go.

I was laid off. The person who informed me (not my boss or their boss, they were just spectators in the meeting) was clear to not hold hope of finding something else at 3M immediately.

It seems this round of layoffs, you are out and gone for good. They’re really trying to cut costs so why would they just shuffle your salary into another department?

Had a colleague who was laid off last Sept. and then rehired back into the same group within the 45 day window and then was laid off again in February. Why the he-l would management do that?

Why would you want to stay? The jobs posted in workday may be the least amount of jobs I have seen. If you want to transfer to Costa Rica and take a 60% paycut they might hire you there? But yes, you can apply internally for 14 days from your day 1 of termination meeting.

I think it's possible to transfer to a new position within the 45 days before you are severed... if there are any open requisitions still hiring. With this massive of a layoff and the repeated hiring freezes over the past year, it seems doubtful you will find anything available. I sincerely wish you the very best of luck.
