Reading some of these threads, it's amazing to me that some still expect that they will get some recognition from Ford for their excellent work. No matter how much they don't feel appreciated and valued, they think that the problem is with them and try to fix it by making even greater efforts. Is there any solution other than to leave?

You're right! As part of my time at Ford I have worked with all kind of people. The political animals are usually avoided. The clueless are helped from time to time, with very low priority. After all, I won't get any credit from the work I did (Sometimes I was recognized, but that's not the normal).
However, when I come across an efficient and knowledgeable employee at Ford, which happens less frequent lately, I want to keep working with that person. In time, we develop a good relationship, where we ask favors from each other, bypassing some of the red tape, and prioritizing each other tasks. The only problem is that I keep losing those key people in other teams, because they were laid off, or they left the company, and their replacements suck big time.
Unless you kiss bu-t & align with their great ideas, political ideology, and grandstand about how great Ford is doing then you will not get any pats on the back or recognition. I'm at the point where I've lost interest in this company.
People need to focus on things within their control. Do excellent work and learn for the joy of learning and accomplishment. Of course they should spend only 40 hours a week working period. You will never be happy if you wait for a pat on the back at Ford. Knives in the back are common place at Ford but pats are scarce.
Here is the thing most of the stabbed don’t realize, the stabbers are a miserable lot, most are self medicating. Watch as they retire they inevitably spiral downward. All of the sudden they have no one to control or manipulate. They attempt to manipulate prior coworkers who promptly cut them out. When they try to control their spouse divorce happens. Watch the CEO, he knows what he did to others to get to his position so he is on constant high alert for the same being done to him. The guy’s health is deteriorating before our eyes.
