Thread regarding 3M layoffs

I am calling bull...on MR's announcement yesterday

MR mentioned that senior management jobs will be cut. I am calling bull...on that statement.

It has never been done in the last 20 years and will not be implemented now. Top management jobs are always safe, come what may.

3M intranet announcement about senior management shows 14 departures but 30 plus new appointments at the VP plus level.

Someone explain how that is a reduction in management ranks or did I get my math wrong eh?

Also how is shuffling the same old crowd in different positions change anything for this company. It is the same tactics over and over again. Trying the same old thing again and again is insanity.....said a very wise person....is it the same here ???

Yep, first they bloated up a top heavy management system with the Advance 3M structure, by adding numerous VPs and SVPs. Just look up the org chart going back 2 years ago.

Now they will do a symbolic cut by cutting a few positions to placate the general crowd and tell them look we did what we said we would do, and hey we are making sacrifices too.

About time some of the svp were whacked. Most of these people would never have advanced at another serious company

I bet their senior management reductions are those at BG country and area levels. That means barely any VP reductions, since most of the area BG VPs were just moved into division president roles. Remainder are CBLs, which are not that high a job grade anyway and shouldn't count as senior management.

Not to defend anything this company has done or said recently, especially when it comes to layoffs or restructure, but it’s clear many high levels were pushed out (leaving company to pursue other opportunities or retired). If the number is only 14, that is significant given the number of people at those very high levels. All the other appointments were just moving people around based on restructure with a few backfill promotions here and there. Some other sr people were forced in to lesser roles to begin the process of putting them out to pasture. It’s about time some at that level felt some pain, but let’s face it, if you’ve got 25, 30, or in one case 42 years in and you’ve reached that level, I’m sure they are feeling no financial pain. Some were probably just coasting, eating up company resources with their high salaries, and just waiting to be packaged out.
