Recall: Built Ford Tough?

Not like lug nuts are new in assembly. Maybe just “Tough you bought a Ford.”

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2023 Ford Bronco models over improperly tightened lug nuts.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the lug nuts on the driver’s side wheels may have been improperly tightened.

The hazards: loose lug nuts may result in wheel detachment while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Components: lug nuts

Affected vehicles: select 2023 Ford Bronco SUVs produced at the Michigan Assembly plant from February 9th, 2023, to February 13th, 2023.

Number of vehicles affected: 992

The fix: dealers will inspect, and if necessary, retighten the lug nuts, free of charge. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy is completed.

Another "brand new" Ford vehicle that should not be driven until inspected by the dealership. Should the owners be happy because at least it is not catching fire spontaneously? What a disaster!

I know I am old, but one of my memories when I was maybe 7-8 years old, was when I learned to change a tire and tighten the lug nuts. It was in the garage of my parents' house, and my dad's car. I used just a crossbar, and a grown up had to actually retighten the lug nuts, since I didn't have the strength. Still, I was proud of helping my dad, and the knowledge served me well later on.

If I didn't know better, because I am still working at the company, I'd be surprised to find out that Ford, after 120 years of dealing with millions of lug nuts, still makes these kind of mistakes. What level of confidence does that news bring to a Ford vehicle owner? If something so easy was screwed up, what about the rest of the vehicle? There are less and less buyers interested in buying another expensive piece of junk. If we don't up our game we are toast. Sack BF, JF and all the upper management!
