Thread regarding VMware layoffs

UK rejects MSFT/Activision deal

Thank you, you royal bags of sh--e, for destroying billions in a deal that people actually want.

The UK continues its march towards global irrelevance. Open for business? Not us! We like accepting less. And thankfully we have a government that helps us to get to less, every day.

VMware stock is also going to tank today, and the deal has never been on shakier ground.

The Crown does not work for the people. Where's me pitchfork?

As one who stated that is msoft/Activision goes through then so will Broadcom/cmware, I do now think chanxes have increased a big amount for the VMware deal not to go through.

I seem to recall the defenders of the merge said with so much confidence if MS Activision deal gets approved then so will our merge with BC. Now they seem to be changing their tune saying there’s little similarities… denial is strong.

Msft-activ was always gonna be dubious, it was more surprising that they looked they were getting through last month.

dont see how there is any overlap with VMW

Agree that it is still up in the air. The biggest common denominator is it’s the same strict/emboldened regulator. US even more aggressive in my estimation.

I'm not an expert (so my comments will fit in well on this site), but it appears to me that the people who are upset about this decision are those who were set to gain financially. I have no skin in the game. I'm not a gamer nor do i hold any equity in these organisations, but MS have, at best, a mixed track record with acquisitions. It is quite likely that this might be a good decision for gamers, and wouldn't be surprised to see the EU and US follow.

As for whether this is a benchmark for VMW and BCOM - there is not much common ground here so it's still up in the air in my view...

Ahh makes sense. So the behavioral remedies provided by Microsoft were insufficient. They will want some structural remedies for our merge for sure. Question is whether BC would want to divest some of its profitable businesses. The added risk is other regulators may also ask for other remedies on top of that. Not looking very good…

The only similarity is that they are both similar sized acquisitions. Have a read, wouldn't get too hopeful:
