Not a wonderful idea, but perhaps the upcoming sad reality.
Maybe Silver Lake will step in to buy the rest of VMware if the deal falls through?
Great. A LBO by Dell's friends. Wonderful idea.
Again what makes you think they’ll keep you and not your high and mighty colleagues? Aren’t you the high and mighty thinking you’re so special? The irony.
To those still eager to be acquired by Broadcom, what makes you think they’ll keep you?
They need some butts in seats and if they continue to pay me the same, fine by me. You can take you high and mighty morality to the laundromat and I’ll buy some new Samsung washer dryer.
Cash rulz

The stage of the US inquiry is the “let’s think about this more stage”
See https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2023/04/27/microsofts-activision-deal-blocked-in-uk-what-it-means-for-ftc-.html
That isn’t the same level of FU that the CMA did; they told Broadcom to fu-k off, not let’s chat a bit more.
Well US isn’t giving their approval to MSFT and Activision either. What’s your point?
Seems like the tail wagging the dog, UK isn’t nearly as important as getting US and EU approval. Microsoft can give them the middle finger and pull out of the UK.
Hock Tan moved Broadcom out of Singapore in the wake of the failed Qualcomm deal.
What is the UK going to do? Say “Stop! or… I’ll say Stop! again.”
Off to get my Acorn Game Pass
Or, maybe this and the blocked MS/Activation deal will provoke the FTC to pull back on outsourcing it's US regulation oversight to international agencies. Hmm? MS is fighting the ruling and they should.
They need someone who'll say yes to what the investors want
Correction: What the two investors want
Just tell when layoffs announcement is coming out ? Waiting for it.
What happens when a deal is blocked?
You focus on the main thing!
Get ready for the Eliot folks to come in and make everybody realize the Broadcom mercy ki-ling was a better option…
"probably still get acquired but hopefully not by a vulture capitalist."
No tech company will be allowed to acquire VMware, clearly. So of course it will be sold to a vulture capitalist company- who else would be willing and able to do so?
Raghu will still be CEO in plan B. They need someone who'll say yes to what the investors want.
Broadcom will eat the humble pie and maybe just maybe they’ll be more thoughtful about their next targets if they wanna pass muster with the regulators. As for VMware I honestly have no clue… probably still get acquired but hopefully not by a vulture capitalist.
My wishful thinking is that Broadcom appeals the block decision and drags this thing long enough until the economy is in recovery so by then everyone who wants to leave will be able to secure a better position and the ones who want to stay in perpetuity can stay as they wish. Every employee gets what they want kind of. Wishful thinking I know!
Well thing is - since the announcement the moral and motivation has gone to sh-t anyway and attrition speaks for itself.
I would think that the first thing they will do (because shareholders will breathe the leadership down the neck) is trying to improve ebitda. Bcom wants to double it - not sure what vmware wants but at the end it needs improving and mark my words - one thing that will happen shortly after getting blocked - get rid of the dead meat.
If it's blocked VMWare will either get acquired by someone else with not a too dissimilar roadmap or just implode.
Broadcom will continue to create lots of cash and acquire other companies.
Is Jack Welch still around?
Carl Icahn?
What cartoon character will be the CEO of VMware in plan B?
M Dell and Silver Lake turn to plan "B"
