Take a wild guess, who's going to be doing all the work that was previously done by those who were cut? If your team has seen cuts, I'm sure you know the answer. I'm not sure who was in charge of layoffs but I don't think they really thought this through. I'm guaranteeing you more folks will leave when asked to pick up more work without being given anything in return (other than that stale speech of "company loyalty.")

Do your job and go home. It’s simple.
If you were asked to take on more work of the people who left, be sure to set the expectations that tasks/milestones assigned to you will be longer and/or adjusted accordingly. Do not work overtime and burn yourself out in an attempt to complete your tasks just to make their deadlines since you may NOT be able meet them. In this situation, you are burned out but still do not meet their expectations. Avoid this at all cost!
So the strategy should be do less and do it longer. For anything that has upcoming milestones, the sooner you get it done the sooner the company get rid off you.
